Dante listened as Durant talked. Soon the students were surrounded by dark figures with sharp claws and antennas. They proceeded to attack and Dante was quickly alarmed. Dante unleashed his keyblade in his right hand.

" Aw hell yeah this is what I came for. "

Dante used his lightning speed to attack the dark figure closest to his right, unleashing a deadly 3 hit combo with his keyblade. Dante quickly looked over to the others.

" Last chance to run home to mommy. " Dante gave out a quick smirk and ran toward the heartless in front of him to only unleash a 2 hit combo with a surprise fire blast.

Gabriel rose to his feet when Durant and Landri addressed the group. He nodded along with the words, paying close attention. He, himself, cared not for the title of Master. He only wished to attain the rank of Knight and be assigned to Lindblum, that he might watch over his home. He wondered, though, if he might have what it takes to become a Master, so he'd still try his hardest.

Trial by fire, Durant said. Gabriel didn't much like fire. Soon, they were surrounded by small, black critters. Apparently, they would have to fend the creatures off. He drew his hands from his pockets and concentrated for a moment before pulling his old friend, Abyssal Tide, from the air. He swung it about to knock one aside as it leapt at him. He noticed it survive and attack again as another came from behind him. He ducked the second's attack and slashed both shadows into the air with a single slash as they passed each other. He fired a concussive blast of water up at them, destroying one, but only wounding the other. It fell toward him, claws bared.

Gabriel caught it on his blade's tip, allowing the black smoke from its destruction to wash down over his blade. Dante had said something, but Gabriel chose to ignore him. That battle would have to wait until these things were handled. They seemed relatively tough, compared to their current, apparently low, power level, but they were manageable, for sure.

Kaze summoned his keyblade in a slash of fire, enveloping one of the shadows in a searing blur of flames, which then materialized into his blade, dealing a solid blow, and finally Kaze finished it of by flinging it at the wall. Three hits kills them. The wall will make a nice resource!

He started hitting them up at the wall of the school and hitting them in the air when they bounced off the wall. These are easy! He laughed with entertainment at the little game he had created and continued. Every once in a while, one would scratch at his legs, but he was too distracted with his game to notice.

Neoph was about to speak to Valery when dark creatures surrounded him and the other students. In a flash of light, Metal Chocobo appeared in its master's hand. One of the creatures lunged at Neoph. Letting out a growl, Neoph smacked the enemy in the head with his keyblade. The creature was thrown back, but quickly recovered, coming in for another blow. It slashed at Neoph's side with its claws. Neoph, unable to react quick enough, took a blow to the side of his lower torso. Neoph cringed before striking the creature in the head, then coming back to finish it with a strike through its torso. The creature vanished. Neoph then turned to face the rest of them. He was pumped. Finally, he could actually use his new weapon.

Neoph let out a cry in an attempt to frighten the creatures. He swung the blade three times at one creature, killing it before it could even react. Neoph was tackled to the ground by one of the Heartless. He struggled and eventually kicked it off of him. He scrambled to his feet, but he was knocked down by a couple more heartless. He frantically swung his keyblade, delivering two strikes to each Heartless. They were thrown off of him. Neoph got back up to his feet and swung overhead at one heartless, killing it. He then swung to the left from the side, killing the second one.

"Woo!" Neoph called out in a short celebration of his victory. He pumped his fist in the air that had his keyblade in it. Before long, he was surrounded once more by three more heartless. "You guys just won't give up, will you?" Neoph charged at the heartless, striking all three in the head with one long swing. He came back around to strike his enemies again in the torso. As the heartless jumped on top of him, Neoph's keyblade was knocked a few feet away from him, inches out of his reach. Quickly, he recalled what he read from the book; he could recall his keyblade. Neoph put his hand out towards it. Metal Chocobo vanished in a flash of light and reappeared in its master's hand. Neoph delivered three quick stabs, one for each heartless, killing them. Neoph breathed heavily as he got back up. Sweat dripped from his brow and his weapon felt like it weighed two tons.

Valerys mind was blank as Professor Oak and Professor Suzuli gave their speech. His words reached her but acted like background noise as it flew into one ear and then out the other. The last few words reached her, the only reason she understood why small dark creatures surrounded them. They were slouched over like something heavy was on their back, but it didn’t stop them from moving their heads like crazy. It seemed like they were looking at everything for one second with their beady yellow eyes. They were small, their feet were noticeable large like their heads. A few charged at Valery, causing her to become alert.

Her innocent look disappeared and she took a more mature appearance. Her eyes made her look like she was concentrating and was ready to strike with a fierce attack. She took an offensive stance, her legs spread out slightly in front and behind her. Her hands were made into fists in front of her. Valery looked like she was three years older, just shorter.

She spread her right arm out beside her, her fingers reaching out. A long flash of light appeared in her hand before disappearing and replacing itself with her keyblade, the Gull Wing. It was a slightly girly keyblade to many. Its blade didn’t have a long reach; it was only a few inches smaller than Valery. The blade itself had four yellow bows, smallest one near the red handle that reminded one of phoenix feathers in a circle, and the largest bow near the end, right before a small blue and white bird with an enormous wing that reached out like it was flying yet it made the blade look like it partly an axe.

One of the small creatures jumped at Valery, aiming to attack her face and scratch it with its sharp claws. In response Valery gripped her keyblade with her two hands, and then wacked it away into another that was coming after her. They got right back up and went after Valery again. “Not gonna go down straight away huh? Now you’re asking for some trouble” Valery whispered to herself and grinned. The same heartless that tried to jump at her face jumped up again. Valery did a spin caught the creature with the end of her keyblade while also dealing a blow.

She kept spinning until she had finished one full turn, then she slammed her keyblade down on the creature that its friend thrown at it. The heartless she caught disappeared into a black liquid like substance before floating into the air like dust and then evaporating. The remaining creature lay on the ground spread out and flat; Valery picked it up with the end of her keyblade and threw it high into the air. With the corner of her eye she saw two more coming at her. The creature fell from the air and Valery wacked it towards the other two coming in to attack. It hit the two and sent them to the ground before disappearing like the previous. She ran forward again and wacked the two on the ground, one thrown aside looking life less while the other was thrown a meter in front of her. She slammed her keyblade down on it big head, it disappearing like the rest. She turned to see the other one, but then saw it was gone.

Valery heard Dante mouth off something again, Valery rolled her eyes and giggled slightly. She was starting to find Dantes pathetic comments amusing. Of course, Valery stopped then looked a little down after being reminded of her mother. She didn’t want to be a cliché tragic case, but then going to Arkanes was a big deal so it was impossible not to remember the ones that did make it possible. Without them she wouldn’t even exist, therefore she wouldn’t be in Arkanes. “Stop being a sad case” she thought to herself then looked around for the missing creature.

Valery looked left and right, and then finally glanced behind her. It pounced at her, Valery just smiled and twised her torso towards it. She shot her arm forward with the keyblade, slicing the creature in half before it finally disappeared. Valery twisted herself back to a more comfortable posture before standing up straight. She enjoyed this little exercise, she hoped that it showed everyone else that she wasn’t a weak as they thought. One more creature came at her; Valery rolled her eyes and knocked up into the air then wacked it aside when it fell down. Putting her arm out, she sent a rush of wind towards it, her spell aero. The little guy didn’t know what was coming before it evaporated.

“Anyone else?” she asked her rhetorical question and chuckled, looking to see if there were anymore that threatened her.

Sarah walked alongside her comrade down the lengthy dormitory wing that was known as "The Adjunct of Body." Fittingly, she, Raya, and most people that wound up staying in the wing were those who fit that adjunct more readily than others. Typical attractiveness, well-toned physique, and a certain level of physical proficiency in one form or another always seemed to count in the talents of The Adjunct of Body. But of course, everyone could have easily been more fit to live amongst the other Adjuncts, as everyone, in their own unique ways, embodied all of the ten disciplines. While she walked, Sarah thought, she let off a sincere smile, though more out of the amusement of thinking about something, rather than the matter of what she was particularly thinking about. As she smiled, the thought of Durant and Landri also passed through her mind, and she turned to her friend.

"What do you think they've been saying to the newbies?" she asked.

"You know, probably the same old stuff they always say."

"You mean like, 'this year is going to be very trying,' and it'll be amazing if even one of you can become a Keyblade Master?'" Sarah questioned, throwing on a serious contortion of her face, and giving an obvious and poor imitation of a teacher.

"Yeah. That stuff. We've heard it twice... well, more like a million times already."

"I know. So Landri and Durant have no business chastising us for being late or anything. We know everything they're gonna say. Let's just hope we missed all the speeches when we get there."

"True that."

Several minutes later, the pair arrived just outside of the Grand Concourse, from where an uncharacteristic cacophony was carrying out. "Sounds like we arrived just in time for the partying," Sarah said with a smirk. "Let's check it out." She walked on ahead of her friend, into the Concourse. She looked upon the scene both excited and nearly appalled. The creatures of the darkness, The Heartless as they were known to be, were in a small swarm around the Concourse, engaging the new students. At the other end of the Concourse, she could see Durant and Landri standing unfazed and ignored by the swarm. "Well," she said scowling towards Raya. "Also looks like the teaches beat us to the testing their mettle thing."

"Cheer up. We can still have our fun. Pick a Shadow and have a blast."

Sarah smiled again, this time, that same mischievous smile that had lit her face when testing the newbies was suggested. She threw her hand to her side, and in no more than a second or two, her Keyblade, known as Glimpse of Darkness, flashed into her grasp. A stray Shadow edged its way out of the fray of students, heading towards where Sarah stood. When it reached a manageable distance from her, it lashed out in a leap as though it would knock her to the ground with its light weight. But she was already prepared for the move. As the heartless leaped, she pressed forward, off to the side of the lunge, and gave it a slash with her blade. Turning to face the then grounded, and partially injured creature, she flung her free hand forward, casting a "pseudo thunder spell" from the tips of her fingers, delivering a non-fatal, but effective zap to the heartless. In the spirit of finishing with style, she closed the small gap between her and the weakened creature, and gave one last swipe, passing through its head, and leaving it a black clump on the floor before it vanished into naught.

As soon as she could, she picked out Durant and Landri. Hoping they noticed her amongst the clearing struggle, she gave them a smirk, as though to say 'yeah. I know what's up. I know the deal,' and possibly avert their otherwise inevitable scolding of her tardiness.

Gustavo listened intendedly to his new teachers wishing he had paper and pen so he could record the words and savor them longer than he could remember them. He was ready to try his hardest and learn so he just might become that keyblade master. Nothing wrong with ambition as long as I remember my purpose. Milano would hear Durant's last sentence and due to its timing he had to question it. Trial by fire? What does that mean? He almost asked aloud but then he soon realized its meaning when mysterious dark creatures emerged from the ground. He emitted a different question.

"What are these things?"

Milano quickly summoned his keyblade just in time to knock one of the striking creatures away. No time to waste, got to show these beasts who their master is. Gustavo quickly called a quake to thwart a leaping enemy, who remained on the chuck of earth dazed. Gustavo then gave it a couple of hits but rather than seeing it submit or fight back it simply evaporated and was no more. Before he could think of this phenomena two more ran at him. When the closer one leaped he simply dodged its claws and grabbed it on the neck, holding it as if it was a farm animal. He then threw his keyblade at the farther one, after it hit he summoned the Lionheart quickly back to his hand. He would repeat this until it was defeated. Still holding the shadow creature in his hand, he would simply fend off any others that dared to confront him, not letting his guard down for a second.

Rosemary eyes examined the whole room, noticing most of her fellow classmates had already made it to the meeting. She was obviously late, but it didn’t seem that anything had begun yet anyway. Immediately as she walked in one of the boys spoke, in which Rosemary ignored him and put her attention back towards the man and women before her. Gazing at the two, the women known as Ms. Suzuli spoke asking Rosemary her name and she responded as any normal student would when a teacher asked them a question. Time began to fly and a new student made his way to the concourse, officially starting what would be the beginning stages of Rosemary’s life at Akranes Academy.

Once everyone had gathered, small dark black creatures with bright yellow eyes had surrounded them in an instant and stood prepared to attack. All the students around Rosemary stood prepared for the incoming assault from these strange creatures.

Crystal Works

In a flash of white light, Rosemary keyblade had formed in her right hand as she grasped the hilt and got into her speed stance. The creatures may have been small, but a key to battle was never to underestimate an opponent no matter what their size is. As all the other students began to attack the creatures, Rosemary began her attack as well.

Two black creatures jumped simultaneously towards Rosemary at an extremely quick pace, but they just weren’t fast enough to catch her. With a swift sidestep Rosemary was able to avoid the claws aimed towards her, as the creatures landed gracefully on the floor and then shifted back towards Rosemary to attack again. However things would be different this time, Rosemary would be the one attacking. With a deep inhale and exhale Rosemary blurred out of vision for a second as she closed the gap between her and the creatures rather quickly causing them to have to shift their bodies again to face Rosemary. Just that little bit of time it takes them to shift their bodies would be enough for Rosemary to attack both of them simultaneously. Bending down a little to make concrete impact on the creature, Rosemary struck both of them one after the other with a strike then flipped backwards. As she landed, she noticed the creatures were back in the air lunging at her trying to attack again. Position herself in old style samurai stance Rosemary slashed vertically downward causing both enemies to hurl downward. However, Rosemary wasn’t finished yet and even before they were able to hit the ground she slashed them vertically upward causing both the creatures to disappear in a black dust. Once the dust was gone, Rosemary took a look around as she prepared for more enemies.

A girl, she sits alone on a pitch black night, sad, as nights dark veil descends, but low, the moon nestles into the sky, silvery and full, banishing the dark once it came, when dawn breaks, the night of atonement quietly departs

The Shadows abruptly stopped and exchanged worried looks with each other. Their antennae bobbed frantically before they collapsed into jet black puddles and vanished beneath the white snow. The air was still for a moment and Landri took a few steps towards their students.

"You guys need a lot of polish." she said flatly.

"So you finally decided to show up, Sarah. You even have your mutt in tow. Take a hike, both of you." Durant grumbled at the two newcomers. He looked to the others and nodded,
"Always be on guard. Wherever there is light, there is shadow. For those of you who may be unaware, those creatures are called Heartless. Instinctual beings who seek out strong hearts and attempt to corrupt them with their darkness and spawn more of their ilk. They come in many shapes and sizes, and these were the weakest. Not all of them are so simple to dismiss."

He looked around at the group and nodded,
"Speaking of dismissal, so are the lot of you. We're done for the day."

Landri looked at Durant and scowled,
"Well," she called out to the group of charges, "we were actually going to be heading into the city of Akranes if anyone is interested in joining us. We aren't exactly tour guides, but you're welcome to tag along."

Durant rubbed his forehead. This was not going to plan.

"Fine," he snapped, "If you're coming, we're heading out now. Otherwise, you should return to your rooms and get some rest because we have an early start tomorrow and there's going to be the welcoming celebration tonight."

Landri spun on her heels and walked towards the far side of the Concourse, away from the school. She hopped down the small flight of stairs and landed gracefully on the snow as she began to the walk down the long snowy incline of sorts that would gently deliver them to the base of the mountain and to the outskirts of Akranes. Durant followed, of course.

Several small buildings popped up against the landscape, snow covered the pitched rooftops as smoke billowed from chimneys going full blast, even now in the middle of the day. Durant's stomach lurched painfully and he spied one of his favorite places to go. Near the center of the town was a pub of sorts that catered to students and served some of the best food in the city. It didn't look like much on the outside, but once you stepped in you'd think a bit different. Red hardwood floors and gentle yellow walls that were darkened in the low light of the tavern. Sunlight tore through the slightly smudged windows and cast long shadows on the furniture of the bar. Durant and Landri stepped.

Landri shot Durant a smirk,
"You're a creature of habit, aren't you?"

Durant didn't reply to her and merely looked for a table to accommodate the size of the party he had in tow, and then chose one to sit down, ordering whoever was with them to get whatever they would like. The menu was a regular one you'd find at a normal sort of grill house. The chatter of the noonday rush was mild, at best, as news reports blared on the radio behind the counter.

The heartless soon vanished and Dante stood staring at Durant and Landri.

"we were actually going to be heading into the city of Akranes if anyone is interested in joining us. We aren't exactly tour guides, but you're welcome to tag along."

Dante looked at the two and blurred out a quick laugh.

" I think I had enough of you all, I mean really heading to the city? We should be TRAINING not walking around the damn city. " yelled Dante as he had a serious look on his face.

Dante turned around

" When you're done playing mommy and daddy come find me. "

He proceeded toward his room.

The shadows disappeared and he forcibly discharged his keyblade into a burst of flame. He wasn't very good at putting the keyblade back wherever it went. Training was over. Then the strangest thing happened. The teachers invited them to go in the city with them. He grinned.

"Alright!" He exclaimed. "Any experiences we share together will make us grow closer to being a team, right?" He laughed and followed the teachers.

When they got to the apparent destination it was a tavern with a grill-house style menu, he could tell by the strong scent of meat and the warmth of the flames he was much accustomed to. He very much liked the colour scheme of the building.

He decided immediately upon the orders to pick for himself that he would get a classic his father used to always make, a plate of ribs and a loaded baked potato (with bacon bits). To drink he ordered a glass of fresh brewed tea. He specifically asked without ice, because it nulled the strength and made any desired additives harder to stir in.

He struggled to eat the ribs without making a mess, but it was worth the work. Then he tried to spark a conversation. "A shared meal is a fantastic time to get to know each other, right? I think a great place to start is how we feel about our first day."

Neoph took a few deep breaths, wiping the sweat off his forehead. He then stood up straight and brushed himself off and dismissed his keyblade. The Heartless had vanished and it was safe to relax. After the professors were gone, Neoph flashed a smile at Valery. "Hey, nice moves out there." He chuckled and looked down at the three slashes on his side just above his waist. "It seems that I still have a lot to learn." He took out his iPod, then smiled at Valery again. "I need three things in this world to survive; food, water, and my iPod." He joked, trying to get the subject away from the academy. He yawned and rubbed his eyes.

"Soooo..." He looked down at his feet, trying to think of something to break the awkward silence between them. "...Do you like music? If so, what kind do you like?" He asked, keeping his smile. Neoph cringed a bit. His cuts were hurting more than he was letting on. He couldn't show any pain. He can't be weak in front of this girl. Especially not twice in one day. Was this instinct? Pride? Love? Admiration? Shallow infatuation? Neoph didn't know just yet. It was too early to tell.

The Shadows dispersed and they were left alone. Gabriel hadn't had too much trouble handling them. He tossed his blade up a bit and caught it, wondering what it was about this sword that made it so special. He looked to Durant and Landri as the two lightly bickered about what was happening next. The dick scoffed at the opportunity to get to know the professors and his fellow students. HA. Socializing? At school? Who ever would even consider doing that? Gabriel could see these thoughts swirling about the head of the antisocial, rash, borderline insane boy. He wondered if the two of them would ever get along. He hoped not.

Gabriel, naturally, jumped at the opportunity to pal along with them on their trip to town. He loosened his grip on Abyssal Tide and whispered, "Thanks," as it vanished in a burst of light. He liked to pretend his keyblade was his friend, as it was currently his only one here. He talked to "her" often, using it as a way to find solace when he had no living ears with which to converse. He jogged off after the professors, through the snow and streets.

The city was beautiful, especially at this time of day. In the restaurant, Gabriel decided to order a nice, juicy steak. Nothing could beat back today's ravenous hunger like a heaping helping of steak. While waiting for their food, Kaze broke the silence, attempting to start conversation.

Gabriel responded immediately by asking, "Anyone have any idea what that Dante kid's problem is? His sour mood really killed the magic of being here for me, at least." He leaned back in his chair and threw his hands behind his head, mumbling, "I'm actually kinda glad he didn't come along here, as horrible as that sounds."

Gustavo watched the struggling shadow flee from his hand as the others made their retreat. Landri and Durant made their comments on the group's performance and dismissed them. Landri would then invite them for lunch in Akranes. Why not? I haven't eaten. Not to mention I need to get around town for future reference. He quickly walked with the professors and the students who choose to travel with them. He noticed the comments of a rather rude student in the group but paid them no mind. He would walk with his keyblade in hand until they got to their destination; Gustavo was quite proud to use it during combat rather than practice. When they arrived he would thank the keyblade for its time, he had heard this was good practice from a certain someone though it seemed silly to Gustavo.

He took his seat and was thrilled when he heard he didn't have to pay for his food. He ordered a steak with a sliced tomato to go with his glass of water. One of the students present broke the silence, but it was directed at Milano so he moved his attention to his dormmate would spoke afterward to a broader audience.

"Was he that kid who left for his room after somewhat insulting the professors? Was that all he did? Either he's having a bad day or someone needs to teach him a lesson, - in manners. He can't be all bad news, right?"

He continued to make sure he was comfortable in his chair, observing the pub, and listening to what the others made to say. He wanted to speak with his professors but Durant seemed edgy to new students and he didn't want to be a bother.

“Well that wasn’t much fun.” Sarah’s smug, prideful expression faded to one of disappointment. Walking towards Raya as the two of them headed towards the path back to the school, she shook her head in solemn manner comparable to that seen at funeral. “And it wasn’t nearly what I had hoped it would be.” She looked back towards the courtyard, picking out Durant from a distance. His annoyance with her late arrival was evident in the last words he was giving to the new students. “I’ll never understand that man. There’s no way to prove to him that you’re worth is damn time. None at all! It’s like he’s impervious to seeing that people actually are competent enough to make their way. I mean you saw it Raya. Snipped both of down back there. And we could have taken that whole swarm together. Cakewalk!”

“Yeah. I saw. I kind of laughed when he called me your mutt.”

“Are you saying I’m your mutt?” Sarah asked with a chuckle. She stopped walking and leaned her back against a pillar.

“Naturally. If one of is a mutt, then we might as well say we’re each other’s mutt?”

“Ha. Very funny; I guess we are though. So… what are we gonna do now? Hang out, get some rest?” Sarah looked back over to the courtyard. Durant and Landri weren’t visible, and the new students, at least most of them, were flocking out towards the town. “Looks like the kiddies are gonna peace out for a night of fun before they get kicked around tomorrow.” Her eyes followed the group of students for a short time, before she caught a glimpse of a loner who was heading back up towards the school. “He looks pissed,” Sarah observed as he got closer, though she knew from hearing his voice from the courtyard that he was disappointed about the lack of challenge. “Maybe we should cheer him up,” she concluded, curling her lips.

“Gust him?” Raya inquired hopefully, as though the action was something she had been dying for all day.

“If you want to,” Sarah said. She looked back towards the other end of the courtyard. The students, and most certainly the teachers, had already fallen out of view. “Odds are Durant and Landri are out of earshot. They’re definitely out of eyesight though,” she continued, contemplating whether words would be more the more appropriate ruse for the boy. As she thought it through, the boy passed by their huddle, and she decided that that he’d probably shrug off any verbal attempt at getting his attention. “No teachers in sight,” she declared in a whisper, “and they definitely won’t hear him if gets into a hissy fit over a bit of wind. And it’s not like it’d be the first time a tough gust has swept someone off their feet around here. I say… yeah. Gust him.”

“Sweet.” With a manic bearing of teeth, Raya swept her hand back. A forceful billowing of wind cut down the path from in front of the disgruntled loner. If anything, it’d be enough to sweep his feet out from under him. “You’re up,” she said, pushing Sarah forward.

“Fun,” Sarah sneered as she took a few bounding steps towards the boy. He was rearing for training, and so was she. They’d be, at least for that moment, quite right for each other.”

((I should clarify that “Raya” is pretty much going to be a speaking role, and will only rarely be used for physical assertions against other characters. This is one of those rare moments. I might jest slowly phase her out of the picture as I get more interactions with the other characters in the RP. Blade, I’d appreciate if you go with this one)).

"Fine," he snapped, "If you're coming, we're heading out now. Otherwise, you should return to your rooms and get some rest because we have an early start tomorrow and there's going to be the welcoming celebration tonight."

Valery like the idea of coming along. She had plenty of time to settle in later, for now building a strong relationship with the people she would have to call "friends" as soon as possible was important. She was about to run to catch up to the professors and the group following them, Neoph stopped her and started to talk to her, again.

Valery looked over to the professors. They were going fast and Valery wanted to join them, but then Neoph had started to talk to her again. She looked at Neoph, wanting to give a quick response so that she would have time to catch up. She wanted to get to know everyone better, a strong team was one that could communicate well, Valery had been told that many times in gym class.

"Uh yeah, I like music. Um, I'm gonna go with them, come with me so we can talk more" she grinned up at him then ran after the group, not looking back to see if Neoph was behind her. He seemed eager to know her better so she had no problem with finding out more about him. His eagerness meant that it wouldn't be so hard to approach him. Secretly, Valery hoped that Neoph didn't talk to her too much since becoming friends with everyone else was also important.

It took her a while, but she caught up to the group. She looked like she had only taking a brisk walk towards them, no sign of exhaustion on her posture, breathing or face. Valery pressed down her beanie, keeping her head warm and herself safe from catching a cold, or safer from a cold at least.

She looked around the town of Arkanes. It was amazing in the day light. Valery saw pictures of it and fell in love with the amazing designs of the buildings. She hoped she would be able to look around more in her time at Arkanes. The town was covered in a nice untouched blanket of snow. It seemed to sparkle with the sunlight.

After a few minutes of walking, they came up to something that Valery guessed was a pub of some sort. The smells emitting from the door when it opened hit Valery made her mouth water while her stomach yell out. Her cheeks went slightly rosy as she followed them in. She walked behind everyone, she looked like the odd one out of the group.

Inside Valery felt instantly warmer with the red wooden floor and soft yellow painted walls. It was comforting will all the chatter and crowds. The radio behind the bar reminded Valery of home. Despite the fact that students were there, Valery looked like she was too young to be in a place. People noticed her and raised an eyebrow or two, before going back to their normal conversations. Valery obviously wasn't pulling a mature face.

She sat down on one of the chairs at the table they were placed at. She didn't look where she sat, but taking a look around she was right next to Kaze along with an empty chair next to her that she figured another person in the group would fill. Looking at the paper in front of her she saw the pub menu. It had food that was all probably grilled. She didn't know what to choose, so she thought she'd just go with a large prime beef burger to fill herself up. Despite the cold weather, which didn't bother Valery much at all, she decided to have a cool can of fizzy lemonade.

She sat quietly and waited for her order. She her pockets had plenty of cash in them, she was going to pay for herself if everyone else expected the professors to pay, just to make the bill less heavy.

"Anyone have any idea what that Dante kid's problem is? His sour mood really killed the magic of being here for me, at least." He leaned back in his chair and threw his hands behind his head, mumbling, "I'm actually kinda glad he didn't come along here, as horrible as that sounds."

Valery sat quietly and listened to the conversation, not opening her mouth until she had a moment to speak. Another member of their "team" started to talk.

"Was he that kid who left for his room after somewhat insulting the professors? Was that all he did? Either he's having a bad day or someone needs to teach him a lesson, - in manners. He can't be all bad news, right?"

"Well, the impression he's made so far begs to differ. But then, you can't judge someone by first impressions. Maybe he had some big fight with someone before he came to Arkanes." Valery rubbed the back of her head and leaned back on her chair.

As Dante walked back he felt a cold breeze and soon found himself on the floor. Dante punched the floor in anger and jumped back up to face the one who dared to challenge him. He saw two females standing further down.

" What the hell do you think you're doing? Female or not I will freaking end you DO NOT TEST ME! " yelled out Dante.

Dante then turned around to proceed toward the exit.

Neoph followed after Valery. He sat across from her at the same table the others were in. As they spoke of Dante, the less Neoph felt angered by him. Maybe Dante was just like him? Lost, looking for a place in the world. Trying to find out who he was. Neoph offered his thoughts on the issue.

"Maybe Dante is just... lost. Maybe he's confused. Unsure of himself... frustrated. I know what pent up emotions like that can do to a person." Neoph sighed. It may be a long shot, but maybe he was right? Maybe Dante really isn't all bad.

"Oh!" Sarah's eyes went wide at the boy's furious outburst. For a second she could only gawk in mild shock at his reaction. She was sligtly impressed to see that he was privvy to the cause of the wind; that much she had been prepared to see. Yet his actions in lieu were something of a dissappointment. Her gawk changed to a scowl. She had wanted to go toe to toe with the kid if only for the sake of fighting someone who actually meant it. However, her scowl just as quickly changed into a brilliant smirk as she saw her real opening to get the kid going. She turned her head around a bit, so that Raya would hear her better, and to hopefully leave the impression that she wasn't trying to egg anyone on.∞

"We wrong about him Raya," she said casually feigning dissappointment, though speaking a loud drawl that would carry along the path to the school.∞"Thought that dog had some bite to go with his bark, that he was up for anything. But you know what they say about dogs where I come from?" She glanced a little further back, and saw that her friend was grinning in approval of her tactics. She finished ranting with the saying she had once been taught. If his buttons were what Sarah suspected, he'd be biting back before long. "The dog with the loudest bark is the one with the weakest bite."

Landri and Durant finally began to relax with their students, seeing them begin to loosen up as well. Unfortunately, before Durant could order his drink, the building rumbled. The floorboards creaked mightily and the windows of the establishment blasted open, glass shattering and entering the room along with a bitterly cold gust of wind. Snow swirled wildly about the enclosed restaurant. The others in the place hunkered down under their tables, trying to hide from the wickedly unpredictable elements.

Durant stood up against it. "It's probably not safe in here now," he said, strangely calm amidst the chaos around him.

Landri shielded her face with her slender forearms as she pushed her body against the blistering cold storming in through the shattered windows. She found herself outside of the restaurant looking up into what looked to be countless light gray clouds of snow washing over the city again and again. Amidst the howling winds an actual beastly guttural howl was heard. Behind the light clouds a dark figure could be seen for a moment before vanishing with the sound of heavy leather wings flapping mightily. The storm subsided.

Shattered wood littered the ground sticking out of the two feet of fluffy snow dumped on the city. Injuries appeared to be minor, but the structural devastation was clear.

Durant found himself besides Landri, plucking a phone from his pocket that had begun to chirp.

"Oaks," he said curtly.

He remained silent. Landri pushed some of her flaxen hair from her face, her eyes transfixed on the clouded horizon.

"Landri and I will follow it right now," Durant continued after a few moment of silence.

"By the time that you get their asses out here that thing'll be long gone," Durant shouted again into the phone, taking a few steps away from everyone else.

"I have a team already. We're en route," Durant said, snapping the phone closed immediately.

He looked to Landri. She looked to the rest of the group.

"Hope you had time to relax. We're moving out immediately."
