The game that pretty much took FF from its roots and made it something we never thought FF could be. I simply love the mechanics and story of the game even though I hate the characters and their pointlessness. I'm surprised we don't have a thread for this already. Discuss this game here.

Despite a lot of criticism I have heard regarding it I REALLY love the Gambit system. I can stick with one character and not have to worry about the others killing themselves off because I couldn't click heal fast enough. I run into that problem on some other games, my main player becomes the mage because otherwise the others won't heal themselves and in the end I don't get to fight because I am too busy casting protect or something. I like not having to worry about Balthier dying because his health got too low, if it goes below 40% he heals himself, no worries.

Kingdom-Gaming, where up is down, down is triangle, and everybody hates Lexaeus.

The criticism comes from people who don't know how it works. I think the Gambit system was a great addition. It made everything so much easier. Plus, without them, half the game would be impossible.

There are some people who say they don't like using the gambit system and I assume they manually choose actions in real time for all engagements.

I find gambits make the game too easy for me, with the only manual action I need to do being curaga or ethers for sudden attacks and mana sucking things..

Anyway, I'm filling out the bestiary with the extra information you get when you fulfill the quota before I go to Pharos to get rare equipment and finish the storyline there.

Those who are clever and industrious are fitted for the highest staff appointments. Use can be made of those who are stupid and lazy. The man who is clever and lazy however is for the very highest command; he has the temperament and nerves to deal with all situations. But whoever is stupid and industrious is a menace and must be removed immediately!”

The gambit system is nice. It's kind of fun to program your allies to behave intelligently (because the AI sucks usually). The thing is that you could turn it into a game that plays itself, but I found it makes all of the random battles so much more manageable and not as tedious as they usually are.

See that is why I don't use all my gambits. I don't fill them completely with every little possibility. I just set up the basics, attack nearest enemy, cure self or ally if below 40%, use item to cure silence, and cast magic on flyers if they use a ground based weapon. I don't really set up more then that so I am still forced to adapt my attacks to each battle. I have never found it too easy because I don't let the gambits make it too easy, I only turn on the ones I know I'll need and even then sometimes I just choose to beat the gambit to the punch and choose something different then the gambit lists.

On my first game I was to the last area but was going through to unlock everything before I finished. I restarted my game so I could play through again with the storyline (since I didn't remember what happened) and hopefully get some of that extra stuff preemptively. Last time I had to get this blasted katana but the drop was horrid and my mom made me go and get somehting else so hopefully I will be bale to get it before she comes in the room lol.

Well, that may be because not too many people care enough to do so. It may also be that there are very few Vaan-haters on this board. (I'm hoping it's the later since, well, I happened to like the guy.)

The funny thing about Vaan, he actually wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. He was originally supposed to be a guest character who just attacked and threw a lot of potions around (game itself would actually center on Basch), but SE thought that Basch was too old to play the lead in an FF because most of the main characters of the FF games had been young males (the sole exception, at the time, being Terra, a young female lead). So they threw Vaan in as a main character at the last minute.

I haven't played all that much of XII, (largely because I just don't have the time) so I can't comment too much on the story. (Though what little bit I did play through was definitely worth it.) The characters were interesting, the music was phenomenal (from what little I heard) and the battle system was deep (deeper than most battle systems ever). Like I said, however, I haven't played that much of the game (I made it to my first Judge battle, but I don't remember winning) so there's a lot of stuff I can't comment on. if my PS3 played PS2 games, I'd have probably started over and finished by now, but they refuse to make a PS3 that does so anymore. (Probably to make us pay for the remakes.)

Still, from what I've played, it's a good game. I may pick it up again after beating XIII-2, but only if I feel like swapping systems.
I see no reason to fear the darkness, for there is nothing there to be feared.

Holy wow, my last post was on July 2011. I still haven't beaten FFXII, though I know what happens at the end since my mum beat it before me, after which I pretty much tantrumed and didn't play it again for a couple years... Or any game made after FFXII - except FFXIV, but that's an MMO.

Anyway, I'm picking up the game again and continuing my collection of rare equipments, doing all hunts, getting all espers, killing Yiazmat, etc. It's annoying to find that the source vids of my notes are gone from the Internet and I'm having to think hard about what some of these location notes and hand-drawn maps mean.
