Xander took the torch offered to him from Damien cautiously, wondering if these things existed in this dimension. He wondered if it would matter. He slung his bow over his shoulder and followed Lionheart through the wood. His gaze focuses ahead of them as they traveled, his mind reaching out to Mason.

'Nightshades? Grand tree? What kind of dimension is this? The Stormdriver... he was charred by the dragon, was he not? Does that mean that he, too, has become a member of the undead? If so, we should have to defeat one of this dimension's Champions, I would assume. This is troublesome. Any advice?'

Xander continued on as best he could, peering over his shoulder to watch their backs from time to time as they hurried on.

"Follow me with your torch. I'll answer your questions once we've reached safety." Lionheart quickly followed the marked trail his scouts had made once before. Unnatural shrieks could occasionally be heard from the distance, presumably coming from both supernatural forces of the forest sprites and Skeleton King's army. The trees that they are following were also withering in from of them. From lush green, they turned into gray dead.

Eventually, as the followed the marked trees, they found themselves on a down-trodden road but there was one roadblock in front of them. A massive tree had fallen and blocked the road. "I'll get this." said Mason but the moment he took a step towards it, the tree bellowed a loud groan and released a dark red shadow.

"WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM!" the shadow exclaimed as the forest around them caught fire. The dark night's shadow was now overcome by the earth's hellish inferno. The shadow before them soon took form and was now a giant skeleton with the head of a goat's skull, draped in a red cape and a blue robe. In his right hand was a staff made of tree bark and bone, while in his left was a mound of dirt which soon caught fire, setting itself ablaze. With his staff pointed towards the group, roots with giant eyeballs arose from the ground they were standing on and immediately flung themselves towards them.

Lionheart quickly evaded the one heading towards him by rolling away, nearly crashing into a burning tree.
"Watch out, this is only one of the Nightshades!"

Rainer followed everyone, examining her surroundings while keeping her sword ready in case of an ambush. She wondered when they would be out of the dimension and in a more relaxing place. She still needed time to come to terms with what was happening. There were many emotions inside her, wanting to come out like a fountain. She knew that she was finally alone, she would end up sitting and crying for a while. Rainer might not want to cry like a pathetic animal, but she needed to let it all out.

"WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM!"

Rainer watched as the forest was set ablaze around them, along with the dark sky that covered the forest. She was started and held her sword up, ready for what ever came next. The shadow from before turned into a giant hellish looking skeleton goat man. As he pointed his wooden staff with a skull set atop it towards them, strange eye balls balanced on one strange monster like foot lunged towards them.

Two of them jumped directly towards Rainer and as a response to the attack, Rainer quickly slashed the two by swinging her sword diagonally from her waist and up. While they were flung to the side with a nasty looking slice going right through them, Rainer looked to Lionheart who yelled out that this was one of the nightshades. She grumbled a few foul words under breath before slicing another eyeball that jumped towards her.

Damien watched in fear as a creature he assumed to be a Nightshade appeared before them, dressed in a tattered robe while a staff with a skull sitting atop it rested in its' bony fist. The beast's head resembled that of a goat, a smile forced upon its' face due to the bone structure, making it appear that much more intimidating as the forest around them began to burn. The creature awakened a pair of tentacles, eyes staring at them attached to the top, and sent the creatures towards the five of them. The eyes moved at a quick speed, but it looked as if it was fragile as Rainer slashed through a pair of them with ease.

Another pair rushed towards Damien, their speed hindered by the soil they were likely trapped beneath. While quickly jumping to his left, Damien grabbed for some soil in his satchel, creating an axe much like the one he formed earlier, yet was the size it started. When the creatures continued to lurch forward, unable to change direction, Damien performed a vertical, downward strike on the pair that attacked him. As the creatures fell to the ground, black fluid sprayed out of their wounds, coating Damien's blade and some of his face as he turned to face the Nightshade, ready to dodge or attack when the others gave the order.

Xander's brow twitched slightly at the appearance of the hellish figure. Only his jawline was visible to the creature, and it was stoic.

Eyeballs clinging to roots pushed their way through the soil and were flung at him. Without even moving a muscle the eyeballs were quickly smashed flat before they reached him.

He deftly drew his bow and notched an arrow, aiming at the skull of the creature. He pulled the string taut and let it fly true. Having never encountered a Nightshade, he was unsure of what tricks it may possess. However, if it had little more than eyeball plants, Xander was not worried in the slightest.

The shot from Xander's bow had penetrated the skull of the Nightshade. A black fluid was dripping down where the arrow had made contact but this was the only visible result from the attack. The Nightshade stood there without even as much as flinching. As it placed its free hand on the arrow, fire had was starting to burn away the wooden projectile much like the forest around them. The ash that formed from the arrow was then flung towards the heroes, which then ignited into small explosions in the air before them.

"You all struggle against the inevitable. What can mere individuals do to stop the Nightshades, deathknells of the Skull King? For your defiance, I will make sure these damned forest sprites take you with them below the earth after I've run all of you down!"

A few dozen more of the root eyeballs soon emerged from the ground, encircling the group. This was the least of their problems. The Nightshade had thrust its unholy staff on the tree which fell on the road behind it. The tree grew at least thrice its original height and the Nightshade had seemingly absorbed it. In place of both of them was now a giant earth golem that burnt in everlasting flame with a giant disfigured animal skull. As all hope seemed to have been dashed away, a voice spoke out to three heroes which could not be heard by Lionheart nor Mason.

The end is near. However, a new beginning must always follow. Will you bring about that new beginning?

Xander realized the situation was a bit desperate. He had never faced something that actually gave him pause before. It was fascinating in a way and thrilling in another. His fingertips twitched, wondering if he could finally use the pent up power he was always too timid to release. The ash shot towards the group, and Xander dismissed it with a wave of his hand, causing a massive gush of wind that pushed the ash to the side as it ignited.

He watched on in curiosity as the trees became a human looking beast with a similar skull. He gathered energy into both of his palms and thrust them forward, causing another concussive blast of wind to strike the behemoth in the gut. Realizing this would do little other than possibly momentarily stun the beast, he drew his bow once more.

He mimicked the drawing of an arrow, but naught was notched on his bow. The string pulled back tight and was quickly released. A thin stream of high pressure wind shot forth, aimed right for the eye hole of the skull. Like a bullet it was fired, never ceasing or slowing until it hopefully bore its way through its intended target.

Rainer held her sword and looked at the beast before them. It was unlike anything Rainer could have ever imagine. She made a fists with her hand, though the hand that held her sword just earned a stronger grip on the weapon. She got ready to do some real damage with her blade, even though Xander did seem to have things under control with his bow and wind powers.

Rainer was ready to be thrown into more trouble during the battle. She had a small craving to prove her worth in the group. The past few battle Rainer had not contributed much to the team, this much was noticeable. This was only one of the horrors in the dimension, the others were much worse so Rainer had to be ready. This Nightshade might end up like some sort of "practice target". If Rainer didn't get a chance in this battle, she wouldn't mind, but it would mean losing out on some sort of battle experience.

Damien watched as Xander sent a bolt into the Nightshade's skull, piercing straight through it without even a sign of stopping. It appeared that the beast was becoming angrier, since it summoned the trees of the wood, with skulls emblazoned on them similar to those of the creature that summoned them. Along with the tree creatures, the Nighshade summoned more of the tentacles that had surrounded them before, but those were the least of their worries. The Nightshade had morphed into a large golem, as it had absorbed a nearby tree and sent exploding soil their way.

Before being able to do anything, Damien watched as Xander pulled back on his bow, an arrow of wind taking shape as he released the string. The arrow pierced through the skull of the Nightshade golem, causing it to only increase its' anger. Damien noticed that Rainer was just standing there, gripping her blade while everything was going on. Damien could tell she wished to prove herself, so he just stood there and wait for her to attack, ready to cover her if she needed defending.

OoC: Please read the sign up thread for specific instructions of the next post.

The golem which stood in front of the party had fell down to one of its knees and started to exude more of the black liquid from its skull. The smell was obnoxious but familiar to Lionheart. Though the ash of the burning forest was thick, he could differentiate the exact scent of the fluid from all else around them. "... That's tainted Spirit Oil!" shouted Lionheart.

Suddenly, its entire skull exploded and the major parts of the forest and the land yonder was covered in the same, putrid fluid. Even our heroes were covered in the vile liquid. The Eyeroots in front of them quickly withered out and the giant tree in front of them was seemingly free from the evil that had conquered it, falling once again in same position it was in before. Though, immediately after, the heavy marching and groaning of the undead army behind them got louder. "Spirit Oil is what made the undead target the woodland sprites first. It's the sprites' lifeforce, their blood, and the undead hunger for it more than our mortal flesh. And now we're covered in it."

"Well we best get to running. I don't plan to become a full course meal served with fairy sauce." Mason said as he once again stepped towards the tree. Its burnt, hollow trunk was still blocking the road and the entire forest around them was still on fire. However, roots sprouting from the ground suddenly took hold of Lionheart!

"This is far from over!"
screamed the Nightshade as it rematerialized from the ground a few meters in front of them. He had formed an earthly carriage in which he sat in front of with two beasts formed from treebark resembling horses pulling in front of it. The Nightshade was coming at them with full force and speed, engulfing the carriage in flames much like every other form it took.

Quick, young warrior. Flash away!
