Set in the fantasy world of Gaia, Final Fantasy IX's plot centers on a war between several nations. Players follow a young thief named Zidane Tribal, who joins with several others to defeat Queen Brahne of Alexandria, who started the war. The plot shifts, however, when the characters realize that Brahne is a puppet for an arms dealer called Kuja...

This is my personal favorite main Final Fantasy game of all time (I've played I-XII, sans XI), with incredibly complex characters, a storyline that leaves little to be desired, and a very intricate yet simple means of ability acquisition. I've beaten the game once, with absolutely everything possible (aside from "perfect" stats and the Excalibur II) and I can honestly say that there is nothing in this game I would want changed.

I started my file over and still couldn't get that 100 in the swordfight minigame :< Is there a prize given to you if you do impress all of the nobles?

As far as I know you just get an exorbitant amount of Gil for pleasing them all. Something like 10,000 or so. It's pretty nice, but hardly necessary. If you DO get anything better than Gil, it'd be nothing game-breaking.

Yup its 10,000 Gil, but as Igshar said its hardly necessary for you to get it. I'm still playing my first second and I'm still in love with the game. Im on disk 3 towards the end if im not mistaken and I don't want to play it anymore because I don't want it to end. Lol sucks for me.

I knew you would be the one to start this thread, Iggy. >_>

I still can't get over this game. Finished it twice and playing again. Everything is perfect, soundtrack, battle system, graphics. Truly, extremely under-rated. If any Final Fantasy deserves a remake, its FF 9.

I played through the game last summer and it was great, but not so great. It lacked true excitement like the two before it, but it did excel in great gameplay and story. Zidane was a fresh new protagonist, which I thought was a great inclusion as well. Although I like the ones before it better, FFIX was one of the better FF's in the series.

Any tips on Tantarion on Disk 2? I beat him on the 3rd disk last time through, but I've been at trying to beat him on Disk 2 for a while.

It has been my favorite game of all time. The storyline, the characters, the battle system. You name it, I like it. The ONLY thing that sucks about it is Trance. Usually, I achieve Trance (sometimes with TWO characters) when the battle is about to end.

But that's the only thing I don't like (no game is perfect). I'm currently playing the Chocobo Hot and Cold game on Disc 4. I already passed the game. I loved the ending.

Beating him on Disk 2 is incredibly difficult if you don't have the right equipments to do it.

Basically, you smack him to open him (derp) and then cast magic with Vivi (Fira <3). If you physically attack, he'll close up again. If you cast magic, he'll stay open longer. You can have Steiner throw in Fira Sword attacks, too. If your Zidane has been whoring out Steal (as he should... Should steal at least once in every battle to keep that Thievery damage steadily rising), he can throw Thievery at the thing for some substantial damage. You could go farm Thievery up super high if you want to, but that would take all the fun and challenge out of the boss fight, imo. >>; Oh~ Just increase his Speeeed with equips if you can, since Speed and #Steals both factor into his Thievery damage. *figured out the equation while farming Grand Dragons for Dragon Crest one time*

But yeah. Fira should hit for upwards of 2k and Tantarian only has about 20k health, so it shouldn't take too long, assuming you have Antibody on and can withstand Paper Storm. Withstanding Paper Storm is the hardest part of beating him on disk 2.

Mostly from memory, so I might be a bit off on a few things...

At the same time, Trance is so not necessary at all throughout the game. In fact, I recall one battle against the Sea Lion and Black Waltz in the ice caves where I used up my entire Tranced Zidane stealing.

Yeah, I beat him yesterday. Vivi was doing over 4k damage. <3 Focus ftw. I did however fail to steal the Demon Mail he was carrying. Decided I'd buy it later. Not worth the risk, not when it costs around 6000 gil later on. Also, running shoes are ownage. Auto-Haste <3

Haha, I think I used Tidal Flame to finish them off. It's been a while. Can't remember.

I could never beat Tantarian in either discs, but I may try again on my second playthrough. Now that I know Fire is its weakness, I may have a chance. Darn Paper Storm. >.>

Lmao. Use Minus Strike to open him up with Steiner, spam Focus with Vivi, steal with Zidane and support with Freya.

Took me about 4 minutes and the strongest character in my party was Zidane at level 8.

I fought him on Disc 3. Does it make him stronger than in Disc 2, because he spammed Paper Storm and Doom that time.

I always thought it was riskier on Disc 2 since I had a time limit.

No, his stats stay the same.

I wanted a challenge so I fought him on Disk 2. xP

My party was Lv 20ish, and he still owned me. Definitely the hardest boss I faced at that point.

But just today I fought Ozma. Owned me within a minute. Ouch.

Ozma is an interesting boss. :x

Theivery and Limit Glove are probably the best against him.

Which characters were you using?

Zidane, Amarant (For Return Magic), Eiko, and Vivi, all had Egoist's Armlet equipped. Ozma killed them with Meteor and Curse.

Try using Quina and Freya instead of amarant and vivi. Quina can use Limit Glove (make sure s/he has 1 HP) and Freya can use Dragon Crest. I got the idea from a video I watched online, lmao. I haven't fought Ozma in ages, so I forgot the equips. xP

I'll keep it in mind. Dragon Crest deals +7000 damage atm, but Quina has learned all Blue Magics (last I learned was Mustard Bomb by eating Maliris in Crystal World, if I remember correctly).

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, sure.

I just hate how it's going to take me ages to get to him. >_>;

That's also the main reason I don't replay FF7, I would love to fight Ruby Weapon, but the amount of time and effort it takes to get there is just...ughh...
