Discuss this topic because I sure as hell have a lot of things to say about it.

  • He writes bad books.
  • He writes worse books than he wrote before
  • His plots are all the same
  • The good guy is always the bad guy
  • The romantic interest in the novel always is in danger of losing his/her life
  • A deformed Asian guy always dies a horrible death
  • The destruction of the world will ensue in all of his books.
  • Illuminati
  • Three books on the illumaniti
  • He named a main character Robert

Okay guys I hate Dan Brown and I wanted to share that with you. Any fans? Any people want to defend him? Discuss his books here.

None of the reasons listed above make a bad author, though, besides the ever vague "he writes bad books" which, without justifications, make all of your arguments just fall apart.

I dislike him as an author because I really just cannot get into his style of writing. I'd give specifics if I had the daVinci Code with me at the moment, but yeah. I couldn't get more than a few chapters in before I started just getting bored of it. I think it was because he likes to give static descriptions of scenes. He freezes action to describe minutia that don't matter to anyone but the main character.

Well, I believe some of my reasons are legitimate. Like the plot being the same in all of his books. I've read most all his books (idk if he published anything after Lost Symbol) but yeah, ALL OF HIS BOOKS ARE SO PREDICTABLE. Because he cannot think of anything besides poorly executed plot twists that all amount to the same thing.

Oh and hired assassins. I forgot to add that to the list.

I don't see how similar plots among different books makes him a bad author, though. How similar are we talking, here? Like word-for-word similar or just that they have similar themes? I mean similarity is a spectrum, and sameness of material does not mean that he is bad. It could just mean that he specializes in one type of story model. Most of the top authors do this. We don't criticize them for sameness.

Personally, I quite enjoyed the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. Of the two, I enjoyed Angels and Demons a bit more.

Best author ever? No. Fun read? Yes. To me, at least.

Read it in high school but I don't remember it too much since it was many many years ago.

Good thing about it is if you plan on reading only a certain amount of chapters each day/night, you'll finish in a few minutes since the chapters are only 2-3 minutes long.

...I actually like Dan Brown. O-o I very much enjoyed the Da Vinci Code. I'm going to buy Angels and Demons once I get the chance. I really need a new book to read. ><
