#005 - Mark Masters
Spritesmith?
Create a set of sprites and enter it here for a chance to see your sprites appear within the Inferno itself as a Mark for everyone who plays to challenge! Other prizes include a delicious :gil: prize along with a special Spritesmith Trophy that will forever immortalize you among the masses as a God among Mortals.
Rules?
The most important rule is that the sprite must have been created by YOU. If you steal a sprite from anywhere else, you will be automatically disqualified with a possibility of being reprimanded for plagiarism. You can recolor an existing sprite found elsewhere, but you MUST include a link to the original sprite with your submission. If we discover you did not link to the sprite you colored/edited, you may be disqualified.
What do I sprite?
Firstly, you must create an enemy sprite. This enemy can be monster, heartless, hume, goblin, or what have you. It must be primarily created BY YOU. That is, if you use a sprite found elsewhere as a base, your sprite must end up looking distinctly unique from the sprite you found either through serious modifications to shapes or an incredibly original coloring job. The easiest way to be original is to create the sprite from scratch, but I completely understand that that is quite the considerable undertaking. If you use an image for reference, tracing, or what have you, please link it along with your submission. Your Mark MAY be a tag team (two enemies, rather than one), but I would strongly suggest making it no more than two.
In addition to the monster sprite, you must create at minimum one (at most three) unique Spell sprite(s) to go along with it. The spell sprites must conform to existing standards. I will create an image if people want it holding all of the outer edges that I use when creating my spell sprites, transparent for ease of use. If your spell sprite does not conform to these standards, your submission will NOT be considered in the final judging, regardless how impressive your enemy sprite is. This part is vital to the creation of your Mark. If you create a tag team, EACH member of the team must have at minimum one unique spell.
IN ADDITION to creating these two sprites, I am requesting a minimum of five sentences describing the Mark. Where would it be found (MUST be an existing Inferno area, CAN require NEW areas within one of those places), what it has been doing which caused it to be put up as a Mark, as well as a brief description of its battle tactics. All of this is very important to make this Mark what YOU want for it. Any of this information which is left out will potentially put your entry behind others who DO include it. You should also suggest here possible weapons the Mark(s) should use, along with their full spell list(s) in addition to the unique spell(s).
What exactly is a Mark?
A Mark is a superboss, essentially, in the Inferno. It is a person, monster, heartless, or some other bad thing which is causing some sort of commotion out there in the world, somewhere. Centurio, based in Rabanastre, is the premier Mark Hunting Guild in all of Lichon. Their primary function is to take Marks offered by various townspeople and to then post them for anyone to take when the mood suits them.
The process for a Mark to become a Mark is simple.
Something does something bad (or noteworthy).
Someone is upset by what that something did.
That someone posts up a bounty on the something.
Then Hero comes along and accepts the bounty.
Hero defeats the something.
Hero collects the reward.
This is also very open to changes, shifts, and whatnot as long as it follows the general formula of *posted* *accepted* *defeated*. For example, one Mark in Chapter 4 involves a monster who is looking for a good opponent, so he posts a Mark against himself, hoping to get a strong warrior to accept it and come challenge him.
Creativity scores you bonus points, so keep that in mind!
Finer details:
Transparency is nice. (.gif or .png)
Try not to be much larger than 100px by 100px in size per each Mark.
This size restriction is very lenient, but keep in mind it is a MAXIMUM SIZE. The size of your Mark's sprite DOES NOT MATTER. Quality is more important.
Gradient shading will be an instant disqualification. Sprites, not images. If you save as a .gif and it has 256 colors, try again.
Spell sprites must be EXACTLY 25x25. They also MUST use the same borders as current sprites in the Inferno. Failure to follow these instructions WILL result in us overlooking your entire entry.
Have fun, and happy spriting!
You're allowed to use any existing sprites as bases for your Mark(s) and spells, so have a poke around or request some and we'll post them up for you here with no problem. Just keep in mind that simple color swaps will be highly unlikely to win the competition.
Also keep in mind that there may be more than one winner. So do not feel like you have automatically lost simply because so-and-so's sprite is "better."
