I don't have the first clue when it comes to things like tablets since I've never owned one and didn't quite plan to. So, can someone turn all of this into something that I can understand? Is this tablet good? Is it strong, or is it not? What is it capable of? Can it only operate single tasks/programs at a time? It doesn't seem like this one supports handwriting... (*sigh*) Is there a way to upgrade that without changing tables entirely? (just buying some sort of software or having something changed internally to support this?) Any tips? Do's and dont's?

Any and all relevant replies are appreciated, and I would really love some quick responses. ><;

I'd advise against this tablet solely because it's running android 2.3. The current version (Jellybean) is android 4.1, so the OS is really kind of dated.

Is it livable? It's something my mom already bought and sent to me. I just haven't yet opened it, just in case.
I REALLY want to keep the gift, but I don't want to do that if it'll just be a waste.... ): To return this one and get anything good, it looks like I'd have to dish out $100-$200 or more. I don't want to do that; I kind of can't do that. Plus, if I'm going to go out-of-pocket that kind of money, I may as well get other things that I want or need.

Oh, in that case.

The website mentioned something about upgrading to 4.0, but that's still kind of dated. There are a few apps that act as aftermarket firmware, but I'm not sure if your tablet's supported. I couldn't find it on the cyanogenmod site.

That's not to say the outdated OS is a deal breaker, it's just that you'll have to check compatibility with apps and such. It shouldn't even be that much of a problem, since a bunch of devices still run 2.3

As far as tech specs, that's probably best left to Waker, since he usually understands them.

Artemis already took care of the OS and possible upgrades part.

As far as tech specs, that's probably best left to Waker, since he usually understands them.

Okay.

Is this tablet good?

As far as carry tech goes, it's okay.

Is it strong, or is it not?

It doesn't say what material it's made of..

What is it capable of? Can it only operate single tasks/programs at a time?

Well it says "Your new 9.7 inch Impression tablets has a built-in Samsung A8 processor that is a 1 GHz, single-core chip" so it's going to have a harder time managing multiple programs than a tablet with a dual/multi-core processor. And that at 1 GHz is even harder. imo it should take at least 1.7 GHz to do the same as a dual-core at 1 GHz. You're definitely not gonna be able to run The Sims 3 at medium detail. It doesn't even say what graphics card it has. Just 512 MB DDR... Also, onto the supported file types:

Video

MPEG4, H.264, H.263
Supports: RM, RMVB, AVI, MEPEG4, FLV

Audio

MP3, AAC, AMR-nb/wb

Yeap. I won't be able to watch my MKVs with AC3 audio anime (Gurren Lagann japanese audio). Or listen to some audiophile-grade FLACs, APEs, AIFFs, and WAVs. But it's good for carry formats. 320kbps mp3s and 720p mp4s and such. Also MKVs with mp4 video will work. 720p is the highest resolution you'll be able to play, though I doubt it's gonna be playing so smoothly with 1 GHz unless you have only one or two programs running in the background.

It doesn't seem like this one supports handwriting... (*sigh*)

I don't know, there may be some styli you can buy that works for all tablets.

Is there a way to upgrade that without changing tables entirely? (just buying some sort of software or having something changed internally to support this?) Any tips? Do's and dont's?

I don't know, read this Leader International Impression 10

Tablet and laptop parts are usually made specifically for that frame so most likely it's impossible to find parts to 'upgrade' it with.

It's okay, I guess. No worse than an iphone, maybe a little better.

Those who are clever and industrious are fitted for the highest staff appointments. Use can be made of those who are stupid and lazy. The man who is clever and lazy however is for the very highest command; he has the temperament and nerves to deal with all situations. But whoever is stupid and industrious is a menace and must be removed immediately!”

Well, after a lot of thought and consideration...

My mom really wants me to keep this tablet. So, I will. It was her money after all, and it should still be a nice learning experience and such. I do really like it, and I appreciate the gift a lot. I just hope I can do a fair bit with it once I can finally use it. (Right now, I'm waiting for the 12-hour charging period before initial use to be done. >_o)

Some time from now, either around the holidays or just when I have the money, I'll be getting a stronger tablet that I can really use for what I'm wanting. What I'm likely going to be getting is this: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet. I REALLY like it, and it has what I'm wanting the most/the reason I even want a tablet: the ability to use it for writing and such! It seems to be really strong, too. 1.4GHz quad-core processor with an OS that is only just below the current one (Ice Cream Sandwhich instead of Jellybean), 2GB of RAM, nice storage space, good resolution, good capabilities, et cetera (from what I can tell.) I think the only downside is adjusting to the lack of USBs. D:
I had been looking at the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity Tablet, but... while it's really cool and all (I really like the keyboard & touchpad dock), it has less RAM and I can't write on it! ;.; Shame--it's so pretty... (link/link)

Man, I can't wait to have that Samsung...

Oh, can anyone tell me why the operating systems have such awkward names? Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jellybean....? I think Ice Cream Sandwich takes the cake...

I'm pretty sure the Samsung supports USB just not the kind you're thinking of. (I don't know of any tablets that have the USB female A ports you're thinking of.)

Instead of consumer having to remember my OS is android 2.3, 1.2, 4.5, 3.447u948, 44594.34432.4432.22 they can remember Ice Cream Sandwich, Jellybean, Gingersnap, etc. It has a theme of sweetness. Hooray!

I should have been clear and said "USB ports," sorry. The information on the BestBuy website says, "USB 2.0 Ports - 0," but, "Supports USB 2.0 connectivity - Via an adapter (not included) for fast data transfer." I've not had a device lacking USB ports before or had to use and adapter--that's something I'll have to learn and get used to. .-. I did see that instead of using keyboards and devices that require a USB port for use, I could make use of the tablet's Bluetooth to link/connect to and use a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard, for example, which is cool. The only downside... is to re-charge the device... I need to plug it into a USB port.....

Also, this tablet my mom just got me actually has two USB ports on it. :X Two USB 2.0 ports and a Mini USB port. W00~

While the names may be a bit easier, they are still way out there to me. There's no way I'd want to be talking about computers using a bunch of involved or high-tech terms and such, and in the middle of it, throw out "Ice Cream Sandwich." *facepalms*

Soooo, lots of fun stuff. Kain is runed, leaving my Impression tablet the primary and only available computer device atm. I know nothing of tablets, apps, OS updates, or anything, so I'm having lots of trouble....

My biggest issue atm is needing an OS update. I need at least at 3.1 to be able to use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the tablet to optimize usage performance. Judging by my tablet's specs (see link in first post,) can anyone tell me for certain whether or not I can update? How do I update? Logitech gave nice, perfect instructions on connecting my keyboard; however, the keyboad is not compatible until I update.

App issue: I have an issue with the Netflix app not working. My Amazon Appstore app also ran into an issue, and I had to force it closed.... I at least was able to use the Amazon one, though.... That reminds me: my pre-installed Music app seems to work fine, but my Video Play one does not. The four videos I have on my micro SD card are all AVI files, which my tablet is supposed to be able to play. So why is it I can open the app, but no files are listed/shown in the Videos folder I made?

Aiya...
If I can't get any answers, hopefully I will be going to Best Buy tomorrow or Friday. Perhaps I'll find help and answers there... maybe even a cheap laptop to take home with me as a replacement to Kain. That would realy help out....

:/
