Basically there was an event surrounding the red star. Every patch it got just a little bit closer. Apparently there it was up in the air for a couple of months. By the last patch the star was apparently very VERY huge and the players were freaking out and the forums kinda blew up. The last patch the NPC's finally started talking about this meteor in the sky and this old man is talking about having to stop it but says don't pay attention to the babbalings of an old man. And there was a timer on the server itself, a countdown. When the countdown timer went to 0 the entire server shut down and the MMO ended. This was what they were treated to.

Best way to introduce an expansion to your game, I have to give it to them, it was masterfully done, and none in the game were the wiser. I really really would like to see more stuff like this in the future of MMOs I give them props. So basically ppl are waiting for the expansion (or it's already done idk I don't play ff14 but yea. Awesome.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, is launching shortly. Final Fantasy XIV from all reports was a heavily flawed game that was absolutely torn apart by critics upon its release. Even patches and stuff didn't exactly save the game, so they're trying to start over with this reboot. Hopefully all goes well.

The problem with square enix is they dont understand what an mmorpg entails. I dont know if they are teaming up with anyone but a good idea is to give it over to another conpany that knows how to run it. Didnt this happen with ff11? They just dont know what an mmo is.

After seeing the TORtanic, I don't think I'd want to see a company with little MMO experience ever creating an MMO based on a big IP again.

But Realm Reborn seems promising. If it gets good reviews, then I might try it out.

Ya, I mean I might actually try it out if it does well. I'm not handing monthly money over for an experience that includes lots of farming and bad menus. If they give me constant engaging and fantastic gameplay that it is probably worth it. But ya, FF14 was a bad name when you could have gone FF:whatever the land is called. A numbered title makes the company look bad and the game series itself.

I'm keeping an eye on this. Hopefully it will be as good as it looked the first time I saw it.

For the record, FFXI was good, and was actually really big before WoW hit and pretty much took over the MMO market. Recently, it's been harder to start playing XI because those who play it are experienced so there's really no one you can grow with and get help from unless you just happen to know someone else who plays. Square Enix also has Dragon Quest X under their belt, which was very positively received in Japan. So I wouldn't exactly turn my nose up at SE's ability to make a good MMO. The reason XIV was so bad was because they sent it to an outside development team who had a lot of time constraints.

Just to say, that trailer tells absolutely nothing about the game, so saying "this looks good" is a bit preemptive.

That being said, as long as they go F2P, I'm definitely gonna look into playing this. I'm not big on monthly subscriptions since then I feel as if I'm wasting money for every day I don't play it. With F2P, I don't feel that same necessity and can enjoy the experience lots more. So yeah... I doubt they'll go that route (even though they SHOULD because there's more money in F2P than in sub) but I really hope they do.

Regardless, it's Final Fantasy and has job classes and should be really neat. I'm definitely gonna keep my eyes on this and see how it goes.
