I've been out of school since Summer 2011, getting my high school diploma after finishing an English credit class in Summer school after I basically dropped out of school by not going anymore on the last month or two of my senior year. AP Calculus BC and AP Physics C (Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism) really brought me down/in the end they were getting too hard for me. During tests I was the last person to finish or the slowest to solve problems. I also never wrote essays or did projects (badly if I had to, for group projects). It was giving a guidance counselor (and my parents, later) a 14-page note and the forced talking with a psychiatrist or psychotherapist afterwards that finally helped me decide to stop going... and asking my parents to give me a year off from school that gave me time off.

So during the last year + months I've been doing nothing of importance. Just learning how to use Excel from OGame, reading lots of 4chan threads, writing lists, and borrowing and returning books. Along the way I realized and was reaffirmed that education is not confined to an institution, that schools are simply a means of getting an education, and that their efficiency can vary and be measured and judged. But mostly that it's alright and possible and good to self-teach.

Anyway, I'm gonna be posting progress on Khan Academy. If I complete it, then I'm a couple of steps towards learning math. Afterwards and along the way, I'll be posting and doing other things, like progress on books and Feynman's Lectures on Physics.

I'm mostly doing this to force myself to do something positive ;-;

sometimes it's nice to get that year off to clear your head. I did that as well after I left my first college and I really do think that looking back on it now several years later that it helped get my head in the right position to do something positive with myself :3 You can do it~

Ya, sometimes a break is a really good thing to take. We should always be learning, not just in school, like you said. Oh, I just discover coursera, which gives free online classes from neat colleges. Worth a look if you have interest. Khan academy is pretty awesome and a great place to start.

Indeed. Getting my bearings, so to speak. Measuring the winds. That's exactly how I feel about the break. Being in a school environment can bog you down and forget where you're going or what you're doing. Thanks for reminding me about coursera. There were some others too that I've bookmarked somewhere...

Btw I just finished reviewing the 44 'skills' yesterday for Khan Academy that I'd mastered since leaving the site for a few months. Gonna be doing more.

And as for

Gonna devote 1 hour to getting learning resources every day.

I haven't been regular but I've got at least 102 PDFs and DjVus of books in various folders within a folder called [Plan]

http://www.tiikoni.c...iew/?id=0159350

I set the image to expire in five days.

Here's what the Mathematics folder looks like. http://www.tiikoni.c...iew/?id=cf8175d It's the most developed of all of them (I got books for almost all the subjects I'm interested in)

CS folder has some of the most well-known books in there like SICP and Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software, as well as various books on programming in C, Python, Lisp, and Java.

Waker is there any way I can get ANY of that stuff :O I'm going to college this fall since I saved up the resources and junk and now I am in the midst of needing to study and brush up :x It seems like you have been able to actually get something from all the information you have. I've noticed you asking Iggy questions on math and stuff so I am REALLY curious on what you've been doing. Wasn't sure if I could go to school for awhile but things changed this week so... Yeah I need to brush up on EVERYTHING and start seriously thinking on majors etc. Any info is very much appreciated, thank you ahead of time :x

There's a place I got most of these books, and then a "secret" chat room I got the others. The two questions I asked Ig in the math thread recently are from a problem someone posted on /sci/ that made me wonder that question, and the second is for figuring out the formula for something on Hentaiverse. I can put these things up somewhere if you want specific ones directly from me.

Holy shit, I got the 10,000-year clock badge and then I just stopped going to Khan Academy since there was nothing new to do. Now they have a different system that has you solving things correctly 5 times in a row before you get to move on. It requires a lot of resolve so I'm holding it off for now. It's been more than three months now. Wow. It's been over five months.

Just been acquiring learning texts and vids for the past couple of months...

Alright so, given my situation of having to move to the Philippines for school next year, March 2015, I'm gonna improve myself over the next 8 months so I don't disappoint my family there and here. I think this time, as opposed to the past 4 years I've been a NEET, I've got something tangible holding me to improving myself: family that I don't even know to not disappoint and make myself bearable for them to be around.

These things I'm gonna try to do:

- Learn how to cook at least 3 proper (for my purposes, ones with meat) meals from the copy of The Good Cook by Anne Willan that I have sitting in my room
- Learn how to sing
- Learn how to vocalize loudly, clearly, beautifully, and authoritatively
- Learn how to play the piano
- Learn how to play the guitar
- Learn German and French to moderate fluency (B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- Clean up my schoolwork papers that I've saved over the years; figure out what to do with them and trash the ones I don't need anymore
- Do exercises in The C Programming Language
- Brush teeth every day, twice each day from now to March 2015 so my teeth aren't as horrible-colored and my breath smells not-bad
- Develop good, strong habits
- Work out: do the DDP Yoga Wynn suggested + Starting Strength
- Gain enough weight to be at least 135 lbs - I'm 110 lbs right now, damn. Even for 5'7" that's thin
- Actually read books
- Cut out 4chan from my life (apart from the threads I've already saved for reference), will try to post threads on this forum instead if I feel like I've got questions
- Do nofap from now to March 2015, actively avoiding porn
- Get good at fashion
- Get better at drawing
- Get better at math
- Get better at writing
- Get better at talking to/with people
- Get better at expressing my ideas
- Be better

For the next couple of days I'm gonna be making up a plan to making these come true. Also, I'm open to suggestions as to how to do any of these. E.G. any of you know some good recipes or food you can cook that you can teach me?

So um, I did some of these. The ones I've mostly succeeded with are:

- Learn how to vocalize loudly, clearly, beautifully, and authoritatively

-- I know HOW, but I just can't do it on command.

- Gain enough weight to be at least 135 lbs - I'm 110 lbs right now, damn. Even for 5'7" that's thin

-- I now fluctuate between 115 - 119 lbs.

- Actually read books

-- I read to about 10 pages of some books. Ones worth mentioning: 7 pages of Marcus Aurelius's Meditations and 178 pages of The Power of Habit.

- Cut out 4chan from my life

-- yep, cut it down from visiting every day to about once or twice a week

- Do nofap from now to March 2015, actively avoiding porn

-- I've tried and failed many times and got to 71 days of nofap. Lindzei Haikai from FFXIV doing sexy emotes at me about two days before eventually broke me. Damn you Arty for getting me into this game. But I'll keep playing anyway. I want to tell Lindzei what she made me do.

Gonna try to do this one for now:

- Clean up my schoolwork papers that I've saved over the years; figure out what to do with them and trash the ones I don't need anymore

Also, I'm not going to the Philippines for uni anymore. Dad says since I have a job now I don't really need to... and I kept insisting to him that I'd rather go to a school in the US so maybe that helped too.

Well. The character is female. That's good enough for the imagination.

Got some magnesium glycinate, L-Tryptophan, magnesium oil (magnesium chloride, represented as Zechstein magnesium salt), and a Dreamessence Escape sleeping/eye mask to help me [lucid] dream.

Also a KORG tuner & metronome for piano and singing purposes. And velour earpads for a pair of Monoprice 8323 headphones (which haven't arrived yet).

I feel like I should change the title to "Waker's self-improvement/life blog" instead of just self-improvement. I think my whole life is a self-improvement challenge...

PS: I tried the magnesium oil on my hand after it was burnt by some oil from the pan I was cooking eggs with and then this happened a couple minutes later:

CFkq2Zs.jpg

Interesting effect. Looks like my skin dried really fast in that area. I read that crystals would form on your skin if you put magnesium oil or lotion on it if you're deficient in it; those crystals are some form of chloride or something. I rubbed a bit of it off on the edge to see if it really is dry skin and it turns out it rubs off like a kind of powder and the skin underneath is how the normal surrounding skin is. Pretty neat. Also it could be dry because magnesium is a salt and salt dries things.
