Overview:

The year is 2568 A.D, or now as it is coined, 334 A.E. Mars has been made habitable through elaborate terraforming over the course of a few centuries. Fourteen months after correctional impact, the ISC (International Space Corporation) has declared a state of emergency on the entirety of Mars. Its safety compromised by a new, unidentified life form, mass evacuations have been ordered. As people attempt to escape from the falling planet, you find yourself caught in the horrific events as you watch the home you grew up on fall apart and shred to pieces by the alien life form that have ironically been dubbed "Martians".

Basic Backstory:

Humans begin to terramorph Mars in the mid 21st century. In light of these new efforts, the world's super powers join forced and form the ISC. The ISC's main objective is to overlook the terramorphing of Mars and help establish a working council and government on the planet once it is made habitable. The process is long and consuming of many resources, from money to elements from Earth. However, in 2234, the ISC releases official statements declaring that Mars is now habitable and opens it up for living. This day is officially labeled Emergence Day, and marks the first day on the new calendar (A.E.) Many people flock to the new planet and life begins new. The planet yields many new opportunities and trade between the mother planet and Mars becomes common - as Mars is capable of growing a number of edible plants and vegetables that Earth is not. This stipulates the economy and the human population escalates to dangerous levels.

Over the course of the years, the ISC discovers that the orbit of Mars is slowly shifting out of place. Eventually, the planet would be pulled into the Sun in a flaming ball, causing billions of billions of dollars worth of damage. In an attempt to bring the planet back to its orbit, the ISC bombards it with a number of asteroids. After a while, things seem well. It is only near a year after that people begin to realize the consequences of the ISC's actions.

How this would work:

This would be a very basic survival RP where you have to look around for resources while you are assaulted by aliens that rip people to shreds. You would have your weapons and particular skill sets. This RP is very Dead Space inspired and will likely mirror many skills and weapons from the series.

OoCs would look something like this:

Name

Age

Sex

Occupation:

  •  Technician: People capable of carrying and handling long range equipment and are able to fix a number of electronic  equipment.
  •  Miners:  People that specialize in using heavy, close range equipment.
  •  Medic: People that specialize in the art of first aid, given they have the right supplies.
  •  Hazmat Team: Hazmat team members are capable of fighting with chemicals as well as harvesting chemicals to provide support to other team members.

Appearance/Attire

Height

Weight

Skill Set (Skills will be specified)

Weapons (You will be allowed to use a weapon according to your profession of your choise. Secondary weapons will be listed and you can    make a choice between however many provided.)

Okay. I'm sorry. I was suspending my disbelief up until I read the bolded. I can't in good conscience join a space RP headed by someone who doesn't even comprehend the Universal Law of Gravitation. Or the fact that Mars' orbit is outside of Earth's so did Earth already get sucked up or what.

Also this doesn't interest me, really. Survival and horror are not things which work very well in roleplaying. Horror can be done very well in a singular writing exercise, but you're relying on other people to maintain the horror mood. It doesn't work. Survival is bad because it favors short, machine-gun posting. Player checks the room. GM describes the room. Player examines X closer.

It's like an old-school text-based RPG where you'd input commands and get a response and add to your inventory and so on. Basically tabletop gaming. Which is great. Excellent. Fun. But not in a post-based RP where every sentence you want to say to your GM must be said in its own post to elicit its own response and whatever. And otherwise you have the *BIG ELABORATE ROOM LOTS OF STUFF TO CHECK OUT* and then the player just checks it all out at once, where in any sort of context in which you want to create a sense of horror, survival, or desolation, those should each be discrete events. What if he opens a drawer and a headcrab jumps out. Then everything else is nullified.

Idk. It's not a format that works.

So I'm out.

Well, for one, Mars' orbit is altered already because of the terraforming. Mars' surface isn't currently habitable because of the lack of sunlight. It's not in the direct goldilocks zone. The idea is that its orbit was altered through unnatural ways. The alternative way to fix this would have been space mirrors or something (i forgot what they're supposed to be called) but that's boring. The ISC declares the planet habitable prematurely and later discover that the course of the planet was incorrectly set. Derp. I did say it was terraformed.

Secondly, I hadn't planned on it being like "player looks here. player finds x!" The way I had imagined it was that at each "checkpoint" ammo, med packs etc would be refilled but at the same time, you find ammo and stuff on enemies. You wouldn't  have to search the area and shit. it's more like I give you all your shit and you conserve your ammo and stuff and attempt to survive a gauntlet of enemies while you make your way towards a safe haven. It'd be an old school RP where you just say "Player shoots at zombie" etc, but you'd have limited number of shots and each alien would require a number of shots to be downed. Along the way, you'll be given ambiguous moral choices. You dont know which is bad, which is good but you have to make a choice and the basic outcome and happenings of the story change accordingly.

Okay, maybe I'm just not smart on this topic, but how does terraforming a planet affect its orbit at all? The orbit is an unnecessary thing to change when terraforming. Raising the surface temperature of Mars would more logically be performed by creating a dense atmosphere and artificially triggering a greenhouse effect. Changing the orbit would be dangerous, stupid, and would likely never be agreed upon by anyone with even an ounce of scientific knowledge. And then there's the whole thing of brilliant minds thinking the best way to move the planet would be to bombard it with asteroids/meteors because 1. that's possible, 2. that's controllable, and 3. that's a realistic solution that people might actually implement.

Just to be more specific here, I'm not questioning how good the plot of this would be. You have good ideas, and this is definitely among them. The issue is I don't think an on-rails RP is very fun to be a part of, and even in that other description you just gave, that's what it sounds like it'd be. :\ Players would be shuffling along, moving plot point to plot point (checkpoints) and I don't know how enjoyable that would be in a roleplay format. I think it'd be better served as a story written by you, rather than a collaborative effort.
