I should really post more as this is in Intel, but I'm honestly not even sure how to begin with this. This thread is sparked by the video linked below, which I'm interested in hearing opinions on. Of course, this thread is not just for talking about the video; it's for discussing anything about and related to rape culture.

"Censorship is telling a man he can't have a steak just because a baby can't chew it."
— Mark Twain

“I divide my officers into four classes; the clever, the lazy, the industrious, and the stupid. Each officer possesses at least two of these qualities. Those who are clever and industrious are fitted for the highest staff appointments. Use can be made of those who are stupid and lazy. The man who is clever and lazy however is for the very highest command; he has the temperament and nerves to deal with all situations. But whoever is stupid and industrious is a menace and must be removed immediately!”
— General Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord

It's not a joke, no. This is a serious thread.

Also, sorry about the link, guys. It's corrected now. Irritatingly, some sites like that one automatically load a new video once the one you were watching ends. -_o I wasn't thinking about that when I grabbed the link and ended up making a mistake.

Thank you all for pointing out the mistake.

The topics in the video are subject that do need to be addressed and, in fact, they are being addressed but the wider collection of society is still failing to realise how severe rape is and what rape culture is.

There's a lot to talk about with this topic only a lot of people treat the subject as a taboo topic, to the point where you no one wants to talk about it. I've noticed the culture is rather strong in the gaming community. From my own personal experience I've seen that members of the gaming community treat rape as a light topic and a joke more than a majority of society. Most of these jokes are sent out to degrade the other player and allow the creator of the joke feel dominant over other players. There are most certainly many other words that can be used to say that you dominated another player in terms of performance, I use them.

I remember when I was younger I first heard the term of "raping someone" in game from my cousin and I never understood why people would say such things. As well as that gamers react in a hostile way when confronted about it. Many times they would defend their words, behaving as if the term and act of rape is not a serious subject and is a harmless act. Other times they would completely cut off communication and behave as if what they said wasn't wrong and so refuse to learn whether or not their words were considered inappropriate or offensive.

That where's the big problem is. People who behave in the way which is classified as an act of rape culture refuse to learn or understand that what they are saying is considered offensive and/or inappropriate. Rape culture exists because people don't speak about the topic or attempt to see the other side of their remarks and attitudes. The gaming community can be rather toxic on the subject, of course that being said I am most certainly not saying all of the gaming community has this kind of attitude towards rape. I have plenty of friends in the gaming community and the I am a part of the gaming community, however a few of my friends would also make "rape" remarks when playing games. One of them, who admits that he doesn't make remarks any more, said, when I confronted him about, that he didn't like it when he thought about it but had been influenced to say remarks and insults involving rape by the community itself because remarks using the term rape were not uncommon.

I believe that is an example of how rape culture actually grows and fails to be stamped out. It's seen as a normal thing in many aspects, in the gaming community it is as I just spoke of previously, in the night life party community I've seen things like spiking a person drink, groping someone because of what they were wearing, feeling entitled to an orgasm because of their efforts to please a person etc. That's very wrong through my eyes because rape should not be treated as a normal happenings, not through mentions and especially not through acts.

I could go on and on but there are many more things to be discussed and I haven't said much on the initial video posted but seeing as a majority of forum goers here are gamers the topic of rape culture in the gaming community would be of interest.
