#37650 [ Act II ] The Heroes of Milencia

Zoey had been disappointed, though not at all surprised, that she was not allowed home. She wanted to at least go back to her grove. Being a first-generation mutant in the family, and having such a volatile incident, her parents were rightfully fearful. Nobody in the family knew how to deal with this kind of issue. Still, she wanted to return to her grove. There she felt at home. Zoey was currently tossing mushrooms at a tree on the southern part of the school grounds. Zoey had been here a week, but still had yet to make a friend. "I can't wait to take my first friend home to my grove." She smiled and picked up the mushrooms she had thrown. She scurried back to her room, opening a chest one quarter full of moist soil, and planted her mushrooms. Then she went to go get some pancakes.

Zoey was just finishing her pancakes before the announcement went over the..... Zoey stopped and thought. She'd been here for a while now, and she had yet to see an intercom system. She thought about this for a moment before shrugging it off and heading towards the Grand Foyer. As she was heading towards the exit, she saw someone from her class, Jack Fross, carrying some ice cream. She knew that Jack, like herself, had trouble controlling her powers, and that they affected her appearance. Since Zoey had arrived at the school and had some time to work on controlling the spores from the mushroom on her head, Zoey had opted not to hide her mushroom at school. Everybody at school who cared would eventually know her and her condition. She walked over to Jack and giggled. "Isn't it a bit early for ice cream, Jack? Dessert normally comes after lunch or dinner, not breakfast, silly." Zoey was joking, of course, though she was very picky about her own sweets. "I noticed you've made progress on controlling your power, Jack, but you need to stop caring about what other students think. Their thoughts can't hurt you. Take it from me! I have a giant mushroom on my head!" She smiled at Jack, trying to raise her spirits about the issue.

Zoey had been quite oblivious to the harsh words of Ellie, as she had been distracted by the goings on above. When the headmistress was finished and artfully descended to their level, Zoey was very pleased with her style. For such a formal person, she was quite fashionable.
Upon Mr. Hendricks- decidedly nicknamed Bones, in her mind at least- calling her name, she put on her fedora and scurried up as quickly as she could manage. Glancing at her Credit Card on her way towards Mrs. Simmons, she looked at her nickname "Funguru". Looking back, the pun wasn't worth it. She would have been better as SuperShroom or or the Moldy Maiden. She then looked closely at the back, and looked at the apparel available as she waited for Mrs. Simmons to speak. Zoey wondered if students could transfer credits for goods as well, or return used goods at lower prices.

Zoey's attention shifted quickly from her card to Mrs. Simmons and the class, or rather, Rose, Jack, and a hooded figure. "Um. I'm Zoey. My codename is Funguru. I wish I had more control over my powers right now. Or that this bloody mushroom would go away. It's got some weight to it. One question: can codenames be changed? Um. Mushroom." Zoey looked at the hooded figure and Mrs. Simmons.

Zoey barely noticed the commotion from the other class. She was too busy with other things, like trying to talk to Shine. "Hello, dearie! Why so shy? We're all pals here! Oh! What's your favorite thing? What's your power? Did your power change your appearance too?" All during this interrogation, she was halfheartedly playing with her Credit Card in her other hand.

Zoey thought carefully and analyzed the situation. "Well, we can't just charge straight in. We should keep it quiet and sneak in somehow. If they have the building on Lockdown, we may have trouble not tripping the alarms, but it's not impossible. Then we need to create a bunch of smaller incidents to distract the guards. I doubt that an operation like this would have just these three, after all, there are probably some guards elsewhere. We need to have some way to get rid of the guards there, though, no matter what. I don't know, though, getting in stealthily will be tricky." She looked around the area, searching for an entrance.

Zoey was pleased with her door. Zoey tried the door, figuring it was their best lead. "An ambush is too reckless and dangerous. We don't know what all they can do or even how many there are beyond those three. We need to sneak in and cautiously deal with this. There are too many lives at risk, here. If you want to charge in, we should divide into a diversion team and a strike team. Diversion will take on the guards in a fight, and strike will covertly free the captives and guide them out from here. The hostages come first, then the money." Zoey looked at the team, silently hoping this psuedo-compromise was reasonable enough.

Zoey nodded to the others being distractions. "Let's get moving then. You all go in the front, I'll go in this door. That way, even if we trip an alarm, they're unlikely to check this door, since you've already gone through the front, giving me an opening to get the hostages out. Just keep them in check, and preferably keep their attention so they don't notice me, at least so they don't have any way to stop me. Just give me a signal when you're ready if the alarm doesn't go off." Zoey stood next to the door, fully alert and ready to go in the door.

Zoey opted to once again compromise. "Okay, you all go in the side, I'll just go in the front when you've got them distracted. The point is for you all to keep their focus away while I sneak the prisoners out. Then I'll help you all wrap it up, we'll secure the facility, and get out of dodge." It was the same plan, just rotating spots.

Seeing her entire team was going to resent her if she went toward the front, after the alarms failed to sound, Zoey followed. Hearing the voices downstairs, Zoey looked to the team, somewhat alertedly. She motioned downstairs. Although the civilians were the most important part of the mission, they couldn't neglect the group downstairs. If they rushed upstairs to aid the group upstairs, they could be heavily outnumbered, and the hostages would be in great danger. Even if the ones topside rushed downstairs to aid the others, with Frosty's snow they could set a trap, and the hostages wouldn't be in any danger. Zoey slowly walked down the stairs as quietly as she could, motioning for the others to follow.

Zoey thought about what Jack said. Zoey whispered. We can always set a trap on the stairs, and just the two of us could probably take out these two quickly and quietly. And, worst case scenario, if the others try to come to the aid of these two, the others can keep them at bay or ambush them on the stairs. Not to mention, fighting down here is safer for the hostages." Zoey looked Jack in the eyes. Her reason seemed sound to her, and her explanation seemed flawless, strongest point at the end.

Zoey slyly spawned some small, round mushrooms on the stairway as she was pulled up- three, to be exact. She then quickly rushed into the brawl, around all the others, and motioned the captives quickly out the front door. "Out, quickly! I can't guarantee your safety if you don't leave now. All of you out!" Zoey looked toward the stairwell and bit her lip. There was another hostage down there. Her trap could hurt him, but most likely not much, and her team was not yet prepared for the downstairs reinforcements. Zoey continued motioning the victims out the door, responding to any assailant with a tossed mushroom.

Zoey quickly attempted to rush away from the two guards, using her small size and the obstacles to her advantage. She would take a quick gulp from a sweet elixir in her pouch and feel revitalized. Then, in one fluent motion, she would toss two mushrooms at the faces of her assailants. "Nothing personal, just want you to let go of these innocents you sick freaks."

Zoey would attempt to dodge the volley of energy and respond in kind  with two mushrooms at the baddy, assuming any attacks from her allies didn't bring him down first. She would then respond to each of her allies. "If we don't free these captives the guy could go batshit and just decide to kill them all. We need to free the captives, get him out here, and negotiate his walking for the hostage. He doesn't know how many of us there are, either, so we could maybe ambush him outside after we secure the last hostage. We have enough of his crew and enough witnesses and evidence to nail him if we let him walk away here and now, anyways."

Zoey sighed as the others had apparently gone insane and dived down the stairs after the villain had just said he would shoot the hostage. Zoey looked at the little girl and stood up. "I need you to be brave, girly. We're trying to stop the mean men from taking everybody's money and stop them from hurting people. You can be very helpful by calming all of the others in there down and getting them out of here, maybe even calling the Police." Zoey gave the girl a pat on the head and ran down the stairs after her teammates.

Zoey watched as Rose quickly eliminated the robber that was still standing. Seeing the exposed safety deposit box, something made her want to examine it- they were being paid to rob a bank, so maybe they weren't just stealing money- but first, they'd have to deal with this clown. Zoey took a fighting pose, took a quick swig of her potion, and tossed four mushrooms at the foe.

Following her training, Zoey went into her room for a little bit. She wanted to at least stock up on her potions after the battle, putting them in her sack, but ended up playing around with them a little bit as well. She popped a few mushrooms into reality and planted them in her small chest of soil. "Today was pretty eventful, to be honest. I'll go back down here in a bit, but first I'll have a bit of a swim." Zoey grabbed her bathing suit and went out to the pool.

Zoey, after a refreshing swim, returned to her training attire and went back down to the training spheres. She would initiate the versus mutant training simulation and prepare herself for whatever came at her.

Zoey stretched and headed into the Cafeteria for a quick meal before a nap. Taking a salad and some sweets, she looked around a bit before spotting Jack. She slowly walked over and looked at the table, making sure her hat was completely disguising her mushroom. "Um, mind if I sit here?" She nibbled at a lettuce leaf in anticipation of her answer.

Zoey frowned and tried to stop the boy from leaving, but he had already gone. Zoey turned to Dale. Taking a bite of salad and drinking a potion, Zoey responded to Dale after swallowing.  "Hello, Dale, my name is Zoey. I'm pretty worn down right now, got beat up pretty bad in the simulation, how about you?" Zoey waved at the boy that had just sat down.

Zoey yawned and interjected a bit about Ellie. "She seems to hate me already just for talking to Jack, my natural hair color, and my power, but I have yet to get to know her." She then looked over to Dale as he responded. "I hope so, too, Dale." She smiled shyly. She then turned to Ludo and responded to him, standing up, leaning over the table, and offering a handshake, unintentionally giving the entire table an angle down her shirt. "My name's Zoey Lomadia, Jack here and I are in Mrs. Simmon's class. Pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Zoey quickly changed into her uniform and jersey, once again wincing at the name. She'd have to talk to Mrs. Praesant about changing that next time she saw her around. Mushroom Maiden and Femme Fungus were much better than Funguru. What possessed her to put that? It sounds so stupid. Oh well, nothing she could change on the fly. She read the rules as she walked down to the South Field. The only things that struck her as odd was that the game was called Battleball but they could not actually fight, and the goal was to destroy the GO/AL but they could not destroy the GO/AL per the last rule. She'd have to bring that up at some point. When she arrived on the South Field she went over to Mrs. Simmons and stood quietly, looking over the field and trying to relate the rules to the setup.

Zoey grinned and crossed her arms. "We lost Frosty, but we've still got a good chance. Jack could easily tell them and account for our powers, now, so we have to account for theirs. We have to identify their powers quickly if we're going to stand any chance. Shine can definitely be a good striker, and Rose and I can be good for aerial maneuverability and ranged maneuverability. The question remains what positions and powers Olivia and Dale have. I think Olivia's may have something to do with music, but I don't really know what. Ugh, if only Jack were on our side, she knew mosy of their team." Zoey sighed and nibbled on a cookie.

If the ball was indeed launched back, Zoey would launch it back with one mushroom, and, following it the whole time, launch it farther toward the GO/AL with another, if it had not been, Zoey would simply launch it farther toward the goal with one mushroom.

When Jack inevitably dived for the BALL, she would be pelted in the legs with mushrooms in an attempt to stop her and/or trip her. Then, assuming Shine was successful in getting the BALL out of the crowd's deadlock, Zoey would attempt to launch it as far as she could with three mushrooms, following the ball with each one.
