Spoiler

The Avengers are assembling.

Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) will be suiting up to star in the live-action film The Avengers, directed and co-written by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator) and executively produced by Jon Favreau (Iron Man series director).

The film is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2012, after the release of the films Iron Man 2, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor. It is speculated that Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), aka the Hulk (voiced by Lou Ferrigno), who IS confirmed to appear in the film, will either be the main villain or one of the roster members. The film will be apart of Marvel's Cinematic Universe (the shared universe of the films self-produced by Marvel).

Discuss the upcoming Avengers film and the films that fall under it's canon (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger).

I, for one, absolutely CANNOT wait for this film to be released. Iron Man and War Machine are two of my favorite Marvel heroes, and to see them on the same screen with Cap, Thor, Hulk, and Nick Fury would just be orgasmic.

One thing I bet will happen, that if there are sequels to the Avengers film, Spider-Man will be added to the roster, since he is getting his film series rebooted.

EDIT: Scratch that, Sony has the rights to the Spider-Man film franchise. Marvel is self-producing the Avengers films. Unless Marvel re-buys the franchise from Sony, then Spider-Man appearing in the Avengers will not happen.

I saw Iron Man 2 today. It was absolutely amazing. I'm calling it the best film of 2010, and it totally blows the first film out of the water. Everything about the movie was great. Mickey Rourke was an excellent villain, Don Cheadle portrayed Rhodey/War Machine perfectly, and of course, Robert Downey Jr. was perfect as Tony.

Spider-Man reboot is going to blow massive amount of ass. Quote me on that. They're taking a pretty nicely developed Peter Parker and world surrounding him and saying LOL NTY and starting over by completely and utterly pissing all over the character by making him a high-school kid. Not happy. Very not happy. Maybe that fits into one of the alt Spider-Man continuities, but I doubt it. I really do. For some reason I think of the spanish Spider-Man of the future as fitting this mold but I can't think of his name at all.

Spidey in the Avengers would be sick nasty especially if they can incorporate the Iron Man suit that he gets. Most lovely. Right now I'm not too excited about the Avengers. I don't like Thor, I don't really like Nick Fury too much, (but i love Sam Jackson. I so torn) the Hulk never appealed to me. So really the only two I like are Captain America and Iron Man. Putting a meshing of the superheroes together to me will mean that it'll be more like an actual comic book instead of focusing on character development (which each hero will get in their own respective movie), which may or may not sit well with the movie going public. Regardless, I plan to see them all (waiting for Thor on DVD or I'll be a swashbuckler since I cannot see myself paying 12 bucks to go see a hero I do not like even one bit unless the movie has amazing reviews and delves deeply into my much loved Norse mythos and doesn't shit all over it) and all that jazz.

Should be good, especially if they give each member of the avengers the same love and care they gave to Iron Man and NOT making them like Ghost Rider. Damn you Nicolas Cage. Damn you.

......Obviously you don't know about Spider-Man's origins.

Peter Parker was only in high school when he first gained his powers. And he was Spider-Man for a good long while before entering college.

I understand this, but I don't remember him being a freshman. I remember him being a senior. From my limited looking into the new spidey reboot it sounds like they're going big time entry into high school and dealing with high school drama while moonlighting as Spider-Man. I have 553 issues of Amazing Spider-Man on my computer at the moment, of which I've read maybe half of. So yeah, I know he was primarily a high school student when he became Spider-Man but the way they're talking about the movie is that it's going to be about the troubles and tribulations of high school life, when really we rarely saw Peter ever really worry about his schooling. I mean what, all we see in Peter swooning over girls and all that. MEH. Regardless. Developed Peter Parker > Undeveloped one.

Never in any of their announcements has Sony stated that they are making Peter a freshmen. I don't know what you're reading. But, let's change the subject. As I said in the first post, the Spider-Man reboot is not related to the films self-produced by Marvel.

Never in any of their announcements has Sony stated that they are making Peter a freshmen. I don't know what you're reading. But, let's change the subnect. As I said in the first post, the Spider-Man reboot is not related to the films self-produced by Marvel.

Since the announcement that the reboot would be happening and we would be seeing it in 2012 there have been a few indications as to where it might go. Sony tweeted that Peter Parker would be heading back to high school, which spawned suggestions that Sony were going to aim for the Twilight/teen market. Now EW are saying that “the series will place Peter Parker in a more contemporary setting, as a teenager battling today’s issues” and that Sony are “interested in a more gritty, contemporary redo of the series”. This reboot could very well be what Batman Begins was to the Batman franchise, but I do think it is rather soon to have a reboot. However it goes back to the rights issue. Sony don’t want to let them slip away so a reboot is their only option.

I'm sorry, but Twilight/tween market and Spider-Man scares the shit out of me. I don't know about you. The entire premise of this scares me with how... casually they're seeming to be with Parker. I'm going to be skeptical until I see previews/new information. To me it just sounds like they're going younger than they did with Spidey 1, which would be really really bad if you ask me.

I did stay on subject and then you attacked my Spidey knowledge ._. While I'm not a very avid comic book reader I do indeed love the web-head first and foremost.

I have high hopes for Captain America, and I hope they treat it with class and dignity because I feel Captain America is a great hero but way too easy to drown his awesomeness in copious amounts of pro-America propaganda. Agree/Disagree?

Eh, I don't know if Captain America will be all THAT good. The first thing that throws me off about it is the fact that Chris Evans, the actor who has never played a serious role (excluding his role in Sunshine), is playing a serious character. I'm REALLY hoping he approaches this role seriously and doesn't flop at it like he did as Johnny Storm/Human Torch (even though he was pretty funny as Johnny).

Another thing is the director, Joe Johnston. Although he was directed some good films (Jurassic Park III being one), he has also directed some pretty bad ones (The Wolfman remake). I guess I'll just have to wait for a full-length trailer.

It looks great but I'm a bit upset about the lack of wings. It's a wonderful modernization of the Cap'n's identity. I'm really happy with it. Let's hope the film is as great as the costume is.

I believe they were going for more of an Ultimate Cap in the designing of the suit, since the Ultimate Cap has no wings on his helmet.

Oh, and the Cap suit I saw earlier has been confirmed to be only one of two suits that Cap will don in the film.

Joss Whedon? The same Joss Whedon that made Firefly - the sci-fi series aired in 2004 that was so epic that thousands of fans wrote to the tv station to renege on its cancellation? The same Whedon? omg I must watch.

K, so. Having seen Iron Man 2 today, I'm pleased to say that this series is going to kick ass. I think this is in large part due to it being self-produced by Marvel. I mean. These characters are their babies. They're not going to shit all over them and morph them into something just to make mass market love them. They are timeless classic heroes because of who they are. There's no reason to fix what ain't broken, yeah? Yeah.

I had read a review of it going off on Tony being so sentimental and whatnot but uh... He was the same exact Tony from the first film. I dunno, I think it was amazing. I cannot compare it to the first, because the first was effing outstanding and the second was effing outstanding... They're on the same level to me. I love what they did with Tony. I read his whole backstory from the marvel wikia today just for fun and... I'm amazed with how well they took that and managed to twist it so profoundly without tarnishing the pieces of it that they used. <3

I'm so damned excited for Cap. I really can't wait. I think I should read up more on Thor before I dismiss him as one of my least loved heroes, but I'm not really too super omg excited about that film.

I'll admit, I was not enthused for Thor, because I feel him to be beyond boring. This trailer makes me want to see the film. Perfect actor for Thor. Plot looks at least moderately interesting. Then my excitement died when it said that it'll be in 3D. :I Hopefully I can find it somewhere playing normally to avoid that nonsensical upped ticket price.

Very very very enthused about this series continuing now. I don't know why I ever doubted it. Iron Man 1+2 were both fantastic, why did I even consider that Thor might be less-than-outstanding?

http://nymag.com/dai...iron_man_3.html

So Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2, won't be directing Iron Man 3. He will instead direct a film called Magic Kingdom, which concerns a family at Disneyland who finds the theme park characters and attractions coming to life. He will still produce The Avengers, though.

GOD, this is a HUGE loss for the Iron Man franchise, and the Marvel film franchise as a whole. Aside from Robert Downey Jr., Favreau was the whole reason why the Iron Man films have worked so well. Well, at least his reason for leaving was due to him getting greedy with money (*looks at Terrence Howard*).

Why is there even an Iron Man 3? They should just do Thor, Cap, and then The Avengers. Why must they start milking this. ;-; I was hoping for it to just be a nice, succinct, FINITE set of films. I'm not so excited to see them go on forever. Hopefully Robert Downey Jr. refuses to sign on for an Iron Man 4 if they attempt to push one, thereby forcing them to stop making Iron Man films.

Thor opened with 66 Million this weekend. That's not the usual haul for a Marvel film, but it's still decent. Thor isn't one of the top Marvel heroes by far so I figured it wouldn't break 100 million. Captain America will probably though.

Going to try and see Thor this week. I hope I get to. It looks so damn good. >.o
