Are these just movies that are coming out to theaters or also to DVD? If it is both it should be edited to show which are which. Pretty sure that the Avatar special edition is a DVD release and not theater lol.

It's just for Theaters. What Soro said is true. Avatar is re-releasing in 700 theaters with new footage.

Thank you for creating this thread, card.

This seems like one of those surrealist films that explore themes and experiences through symbols and subtle cues in the background. You can't quite tell what it's about right away and yet
in the peripheral of your consciousness you get the visceral plot: this is a movie about reconciling complex relationships, the innocence of childhood, finding a bridge in adulthood and the meaning of life. Brief flashes of astronomical bodies and expanses cross the screen along with the art of colored glass windows above a spiral staircase, comic books set in space starring futuristic astronauts, nature, and what seems to be an engineer remind us of the grander context in which it all plays out and, perhaps, the grander implication of all the above experiences in our lives as it occurs in the universe. As a fan of The Fountain I'd love to see this film.

The Tree of Life
Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Science Fiction
In theaters May 27th, 2011.

"Censorship is telling a man he can't have a steak just because a baby can't chew it."
— Mark Twain

“I divide my officers into four classes; the clever, the lazy, the industrious, and the stupid. Each officer possesses at least two of these qualities. Those who are clever and industrious are fitted for the highest staff appointments. Use can be made of those who are stupid and lazy. The man who is clever and lazy however is for the very highest command; he has the temperament and nerves to deal with all situations. But whoever is stupid and industrious is a menace and must be removed immediately!”

My mom said Thor rocked and she is trying to convince my dad to take me so I can see it in 3D. They are making a Mr. Popper's Penguins movie?! Wow. And also I can't wait to see Conan the Barbarian! JUST because it has Jason Mamoa!!!!

Why thank you kind sir for updating the thread.

I'd say the picks to see in the next few weeks are Thor, Pirates, X-men and Super 8. Super 8 is looking pretty good actually from previews.

Pirates 4, even though it isn't out yet, looks pretty....bad. They're just milking it now. :0

Also, I like the name under which it is posted in the first post.

Pirates has a 45% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that's the same as At World's End has, and I really liked that one, so... *shrug*

Even if people think it'll suck, it's still going to gross a good 200+ million. >.> It's one of the movies up to take the highest grossing movie of the year.

Pirates 3 was kind of mediocre. The only quality movie in the series was Cure of The Black Pearl. It was witty and ingenious. But I guess At World's End wasn't TOO bad either.

Of course. Its Pirates of the Caribbean. What do you expect? Its probably Disney's highest grossing series at the moment. And Tron is going to follow behind it soon enough.

I'm still thinking Dark of the Moon will pull out a huge gross in it's first week. 150+ Million. I just get the feeling it'll go well over 400 Million maybe even reaching into the 500 bracket. I don't know myself, but is it going to be in 3D by any chance? That can/should push it over 500.

Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides looks better than the most other pirates of the Carribean movies that have come out :/ I think they started fresh with mostly new characters (glad they got rid of will and Elizabeth actually :/)

From what I've heard, Thor is one kick ass movie to go and see (so something else to watch). New Transformers movie in July O.o That looks like something to look forward to.

This year looks like the year to watch some movies!

This summer has a lot of movies for sure that are good. Before the whole late spring/early summer releases there wasn't anything good. There's at least 15 movies coming out this summer that look GOOD. Not just okay or alright. But actually Good.

I'm actually really excited for the new Pirates movie. Although I couldn't care less about Dark of the Moon, I love giant robots beating each other up as much as the next person but the movies just don't keep me entertained.

Woman in Black, Daniel Radcliffe.

I think its time to see what Dan can do outside of Harry Potter. I am personally pretty excited about this movie and look forward to seeing how much he's matured as an actor. Plus, it looks like a solid horror film O:

Anyone heard of that new movie Anonymous that's caused an outrage because of it's concept on shakespeare being a fraud? I think it looks pretty neat, also you get a different view on everything. Of course, they're not trying to convince us that shakespeare was a fraud, their just showing how shocking the idea would be. I think it'd be interesting to see.

Because individual movie threads always die very quickly, I figured it'd be more intelligent to make a single thread to discuss any (non-avengers) films rolling out this year. I've only heard much about two upcoming films, and both of them make me very interested.

Normally, I don't get excited for new animated films made by anyone but Pixar. Rise of the Guardians is a VERY significant exception to that. After How to Train Your Dragon, I am super enthused for more non-shrek films from Dreamworks. I ignored Puss in Boots (for obvious reasons) and so this will be the next film from them I see since HTTYD. That said, have the trailer (that I'm sure many of you have already seen).

aPLiBxhoug0

And then we have Pixar, releasing their next new film, Brave, which, naturally, looks freaking amazing for more reasons than one. I am really looking forward to this one. Here, have a Brave trailer, too.

What films out this year are you anticipating?
