If this world is perfect, then why does it feel so empty?

This world was never meant to last. For far too long the inhabitants of Chelytos have carried on in their eternal reverie; oblivious to the state of the rest of the world. Although this plane has begun to fray, they still only see the lush, verdant oases before them. If they would have only looked beyond those shady orchards and refreshing pools, maybe they could have foreseen the coming discord.

The denizens of Chelytos have long thought of themselves as the epitome of science and reason. To them, magic was nothing more than a bedtime fantasy. With all of their might, they denied the myths of old. Ah, how nescient they were.

The megalopolis of Chelytos has long been considered a technological utopia of its age. The city's architectural splendor is found largely within its hyper-modern building design, which consists largely of skyscrapers. Yet, calling them mere skyscrapers is somewhat of an insult. A countless number of these glass spires pierce high into the cloudless heavens above. These urban monoliths are kept to a perpetual, mirror-like shine and housed within each, one could find any number of apartments, offices, or shops. Meandering throughout these superstructures lies a complex monorail system that has largely defeated the necessity for any form of private transportation; however, it is not unusual to see bicycles or scooters on the obsolete roadways. The few undeveloped plots of land that remain within the city have largely been converted into "verdant oases." These lush, public parks are one of the few links to nature remaining within the city

Life within Chelytos can best be described as paradisiacal. The residents of this grand city know not of issues such as crime or poverty. Those who cannot provide for themselves or their families are subsidized by the government, while an elite law enforcement committee ensures that life remains peaceful. The educational system within Chelytos knows no bounds. If a topic or interest exists, then there also exists an institution to learn or practice it. No dream is denied within these borders.

The things you have cherished; you will not recognize them.


There was a point in time, long ago, when humans possessed an talent far beyond any they hold now; an instinctive ability to direct the energy which flowed throughout the planes. Those who became proficient in these arts controlled the eight fundamental forces of nature. In ancient times, two primary applications of this ability slowly emerged. The power to control the energy which flowed outside of the body was known as sanfã. There was also the power to control the energy that flowed dormant within the body, which was referred to as tourǎ.

The art of sanfã is practiced by those who draw their power from the aether which flows incessantly around them. Once liberated from the stream of aether that envelops them, they are able to manipulate it as they desire. Those who choose the path of sanfã wield the very elements at their fingertips.

Tourǎ, on the other hand, is an art known to those who seek power from within. When performing feats of tourǎ, the inert aether within a person is attuned and amplified. Once activated, one will find their primary attributes have been bolstered to astonishing heights depending on the elemental nature invoked.

To give them up so easily, did they mean nothing to you!?

A few notes on the template. Instead of static techniques, this role-play will opt for a more fluid approach. While you are locked in to your primary discipline, that's about as far as it goes. Keep in mind, though, that you will be a fledgling user of your chosen art. This means that you cannot educe fireballs the size of elephants or move so quickly that you cannot be seen. A table containing which attribute each element buffs while under the influence of tourà can be found after the template. Ice is a little on the abstract side, but it is meant to increase the five senses, be it sight, hearing, etc. The polar pairs are Fire-Water, Ice-Lightning, and Wind-Earth. Your belongings should include anything your character may carry with them regularly. For example, if your character was a boxer, they might carry a pair of boxing gloves.Everything else should be pretty self-explanatory. If you leave the brackets on when you fill in this template, I will stab you.

Physical Appearance: With pale skin and a slim build, Felix does not necessarily remind one of a battled hardened warrior. His lucid green eyes and neatly trimmed black hair along with his soft features and short stature grant him a somewhat childish look.

A snug tea green tennis shirt hugs Felix's upper body, while a pair of khaki shorts dangle around his waist. On his feet, he sports a pair of white tennis shoes. He also wears simple ring of solid jade on his right hand.


Personality: In a word, Felix can described as resolute. His mirthful attitude is both infectious and immutable. At times, this tenacity does have a tendency to become stubbornness. Although he is the youngest of the group, he strives to prove he is capable of protecting both himself and others.

Biography: Even though Felix was born into a busy family, he never felt an absence of affection. Due to his young age, he was constantly doted on by anyone who happened to be around him. Growing up, he was constantly clinging to both his older sister, Joanna, and best friend, Artemis. Unfortunately, this proved to be the downfall of his childhood.

It was Joanna who had received the letter. Artemis and Felix were never meant to be involved. Yet, they couldn't let her go alone. The promise of adventures and rewards beyond their wildest dreams were too good for the trio to pass up. They were naïve. The calamities that followed far surpassed even their worst nightmares.

Six years later, surprisingly, Felix managed to maintain his happy demeanor. In a sense, he befriended the aether. With each passing battle, his understanding of manipulation increased at an alarming rate. With tragedy as his catalyst, he grew magnificently. Through sheer will alone he pulled Artemis through disaster after disaster, although the older boy would never admit this. He is now traveling the planes with an avant-garde brigade, trying to prevent a multi-planar war.

:Physical Appearance:
Griffin has what can only be described as orange colored eyes, and his hair is black that appears to be dark brown in direct sunlight. His hair style is a bit messy, with a just-got-out-of-bed-five-minutes-ago type look to it. He has a rather tanned complexion, spending a lot of his time lying out in the sun shirking his duties. He has strong facial features and some chin fuzz.

Griffin is a rather solid person with a wide chest and thick arms in addition to strong hands. He works out rather infrequently, so he's not completely muscle bound and too huge. He's lanky, but strong.

Griffin wears a rather flashy black and red jacket with the sleeves folded up to his elbows constantly. He wears a white undershirt that peeks out of the arms of his jacket and has a wild black design splashed across his chest. He wears rather baggy dark blue jeans that hang snugly on his hips. He also wears regular white tennis shoes that have red soles and laces. On either wrist he has a few wristbands of varying types and colors, and about his neck is a gold chain with a ring on the end of it. He also wears a silver ring on his left hand index finger.

:Personality:
Cocky, overbearing, and intense all the time, Griffin is not the easiest person to get along with. He's abrasive and loud and beyond sure of himself, being an invincible teenager who has life figured out and he's at the center of it.

Biography:
Griffin was raised in the lap of luxury. Chelytos was the lap of luxury for those who had what his parents did. Life was easy, but Griffin is a boy that is hard to satisfy. Spoiled beyond belief, he grew up bitter of those who persecuted him because he was well off.

Griffin grew up and just couldn't stand taking the predicted path through life. He tried to be unique and stand out by studying things no one had before, but no matter what he chose there was already an established institution studying it. With nowhere else to go and feeling trapped within the confines of expectations and the pre-dated life before him, he did all he could to escape it.

He left his home and began working his way up from the bottom, being a fast food clerk, a janitor, anything that paid money and allowed him to put himself to work. He cut off communications with the few friends he had and is in the process of trying to figure out exactly who Griffin Desareaux is.

Alexandria carries a purse which matches her boots. Within she carries pepper spray, a taser (for emergencies), a pistol which she has never fired (for more serious emergencies), several colored and mechanical pencils, a pad of paper, her wetsuit, and several small things she may need for her own hygiene from time to time, such as a hair brush, nail clippers, and hand wipes.

Physical Appearance:
Alexandria is a fair-skinned, fair-haired girl of slight build and moderate height. Her green eyes tend to shine brighter than the rest of her face and are very well accentuated by her pale, golden locks of twisted hair which hang down on either side of her face. She tends to keep her hair pinned back on the left side by an emerald-encrusted butterfly hair clip.

Alex fancies a fashionable jade sweater worn atop a white bikini top. The sweater's neck hole is wider than her shoulders and tends to drape across her chest, swooping from the right side of her neck down below her left shoulder. She tends to favor denim skinny jeans tucked into knee-high hiking boots with myriad laces of varying colors spliced together to form interesting, rainbow patterns. Her boots are made of high-quality alligator leather.


Personality:
Alexandria is an extremely personable girl. She is never shy when meeting someone new and would be the first to strike up a conversation. She is friendly and bubbly, and is only shy around men who intimidate her. Those who intimidate her would be men dressed solely in dark colors, ones who stand a full foot or more taller than her, men with exceedingly deep voices, or men possessing any combination of these three traits.

She is polite and has impeccable manners, always excusing herself when she leaves the company of others and holding doors open for anyone who happens to be approaching from behind her. She takes great offense when people make a big deal of her holding open a door for them, and she will let it be known. She has a very mild temper and does not anger easily, unless she is thoroughly embarrassed or offended by the actions of those around her.


Biography:
Alexandria, like most citizens of Chelytos, grew up happily and healthily with a nice family. Her family lived in a small, submarine flat in one of the buildings near the edge of the city. Alexandria always delighted in waking up and seeing myriad sea creatures swimming past her window. Ever since she was old enough to speak, she was devoted to capturing their images on paper. She amassed a massive collection of her own drawings of sea life, and she grew most attached to the whales in particular, so much so that she began to notice the minor differences between members of the same species.

As she grew older, her interest in marine biology flourished even further until she was finally old enough to get a diving certification. She was able to then dive with the marine life and spend all day with them every day. She studied all manner of sea life, loving every second of it.

She attended and graduated the Chelytos University for the Study of Marine Life, specializing in the study of whales. She received her Doctorate and is currently looking into some source of income so that she may spend her life living below the sea with the creatures she loves the most.

Physical Appearance: He has Blues eyes, Blond Hair, a Short, Wide, and Buff Physique and wears an surprisingly formal gym outfit composed of a suit [or] polo shirt and pants [or] khakis. Tennis shoes occupy his feet and he likes to wear his Bowler Hat outdoors.
Personality: His friends call him Wedge based on a couple funny memories and he no longer takes offense to name calling and judgmental behavior from his friends, however if this is aimed at younger kids from anyone he will lose it bringing out his more darker nature. He is either at the gym, in class, hanging out with his girlfriend/friends, eating, or sleeping. If the activity involves physical activity there is a big chance he wants to be involved and this has lead him to have many physical skills, from fencing to horsemanship to wrestling to archery, etc. He's layered with ice and can be difficult to approach due to the natural intimidation he emits even though his short statue may seem to go against this his deep voice helps makes up for it. He is very judgmental and aggressive to those he does not relate to, including his family. He's very much to the point.
Biography: Born into the well off family Taft, Biggs has always had a life of financial stability and security. His great great great great great grandfather is famous for his biological process for turning Adipose tissue into stem cells, which started the family's supreme wealth. His family has always been plump but they increased in size after this discovery due to the lack of fear of bad health and the celebration of the process. Biggs his whole life did not enjoy this quality. He hated being teased and bullied in the private and public schools he attended. He went to home schooling after he couldn't find to bring himself to exit his house out of fear of rejection and humiliation from the other children.

He finally decided that he would fight his natural state in order to be a much more stronger, fitter whale. He spent a good portion of his day working out at the gym, at first hiding from everyone who would comment on him. After a while he was able to lose weight and gain a more confident image despite the pleas of his family to stop this madness. As he approached a very fit state he acquired a job at the gym where he started a program to help teenagers that also had weight higher than they would like. After he finished home schooling he was accepted into Jelly Toast College (of Chelytos Univeristy), which was named after his great great uncle's (John Taft III) favorite food, the sole donator of the college where he would study fitness science and Kinesiology.

The next person to post a troll template is getting a warning/infraction/ban. Don't even. It was funny when Val did it, since I might have had it coming he's Val. It was silly (yet largely unnecessary) when Iggy did it, since he's Iggy. Then Lex? I don't even. Ugh. /srsface


Moving on, Griffin is in. He seems a little grumpy, but that's okay. I hope he plays nice with everyone else. :<

Okay, so let me try and get my head wrapped around the world you've created. The skyscrapers that are massively tall... Do they have windows? If so, how expansive is the wilderness surrounding the city? Because if these spires rise into the cloudless heavens, how can they not see beyond the lush forests to see the coming badness?

Also, if the Sanfã and Tourà are long-forgotten arts, how are our characters meant to be wielding them? Am I asking questions you intended to answer when the RP begins? (If so, say so; I'll take that as a valid response to any of the following questions)

On controlling any element via Sanfã: (which I intend my character to be)

Is there anything particularly different between wielding ice and wielding water in the Sanfã? Would my character be able to conjure his/her element from thin air or would I require a source of it? (Examples being water, fire, and lightning) Would I need an open flame or something to generate electricity in order to control one of these two powers? If I do not require one, is it possible for someone to be so unskilled in the Sanfã that s/he DOES require a source?

Would I be immune to incoming attacks of my own element? What is the purpose of including our Polar Element in the template if every Element has exactly one polar Element?

Also am I to assume the Constitution of Light/Dark is a spectrum or that it is a duality? What I mean to ask is... could my Character find somewhere between Light and Dark which more closely corresponds to his/her true nature rather than being forced into being fully one way or the other? Also, is it to be assumed that it is a good/evil split? Is there anything specific about a person which determines the constitution?

I think that's it. The last question would be this:

Is it special at all that the character I'm creating is capable of utilizing "magic?" It seems so, but I am wondering if it is a genetic "flaw" or if it is something my character should have specifically trained in prior to this roleplay.

Ah, maybe I didn't convey the vastness of this city well enough. Just imagine that this city covers an area of land roughly the size of Australia, and the only other thing that can be seen is the ocean. Also, the plane isn't visibly decaying. While there are signs of planar decay, most people probably wouldn't notice them.

Also, if the sanfa and toura are long-forgotten arts, how are our characters meant to be wielding them? Am I asking questions you intended to answer when the RP begins? (If so, say so; I'll take that as a valid response to any of the following questions)


Our story will open with your character being just a normal person. The events that lead up to them learning the basics of their discipline will happen a few posts in to the rp.

In theory, there is no difference at all between wielding any of the elements. If you get right down to it, it's all in the spin of the aether. I'm locking you into two because you're all going to be newbies at this, and things would be a little hectic giving everyone everything right off the bat.

While you would not be immune an attack of your own element, it would be possible for you to be able redirect the attack or nullify it completely. However, to redirect the attack you would need to be at a level similar to the one who cast it. Nullification would work in a similar manner, but you would need to be much stronger than the person who cast it. Those well versed in sanfa can control a greater density of aether, which is where this all stems from.

Soro actually asked this last night in the sb, but you will be able to control your polar element, albeit to a lesser extend.

Also am I to assume the Constitution of Light/Dark is a spectrum or that it is a duality? There is no spectrum here, unfortunately. Being light or dark does not affect one's morality, either. To be honest, this is mostly just a vanity element. The role it plays in this story will likely be minute, if it is included at all.

All trolling aside, we probably aren't going to wait much longer after Lex and Wynn (and Soro) sign up to start. It would be nice to get a few more people in, though. So anyone out there who is considering joining should definitely post such, so at the very least I'll know to wait a little longer.

Belongings: Elizabeth has no possessions of her own other than her clothes and her mother's necklace; everything else that she ever needs comes from the man she lives with.

Weight: 113 lbs

Physical Appearance: Though she is small, Elizabeth is quite strong for her size and carries herself with an air of confidence. She has shoulder-length, wavy red hair framing her heart-shaped face. Her azure, almond-shaped eyes and deep red lips stand out brilliantly against her pale skin and also distract from the scar that lies on her right cheek.

Elizabeth favors a very simple wardrobe; she wears a simple olive green t-shirt and khaki cargo shorts, along with a pair of black and white skate shoes. She wears no makeup, and the only piece of jewelry she wears is the jade necklace that once belonged to her mother.


Personality: Elizabeth likes to keep to herself, and avoids prolonged interaction with another person if she can. Her sole priority is making sure she is safe and all her needs are met. She is very manipulative, charming people into giving her the things she wants. She has no qualms about harming another person or putting them at risk if she is in danger.

Biography: Elizabeth was born into a broken family; her father had left her mother before she was born. She has never met her real father, and doesn't care to. When she lived with her mother, Elizabeth was happy. Her mother was her only friend growing up, and she spent most of her free time with her.

Elizabeth's mother died when she was only eight years old. Elizabeth had been at school when she was pulled from class and told that she had overdosed on heroin. Elizabeth had never know that her mother had used drugs, but thinking on it later in life, she supposed it made sense; her mother probably felt a great amount of stress from being a single parent and depression from losing the love of her life.

Elizabeth was moved to an orphanage afterwards. She stayed there until there until she was eighteen, potential adopters being put off by her coldness and disregard for the other children. Elizabeth had never felt the desire to connect with people after her mother died.

Elizabeth, in her final year school, met the man she currently lives with. Although she felt no desire to be with the man, she did realize that after she turned eighteen she would have need somewhere to stay. So she followed up on his advances towards her and eventually had charmed her way into his apartment. Elizabeth relies on using her womanly charms to convince him to allow her to remain living with him, rather than contributing any money of her own for rent or food.

Having absolutely no responsibilities or concern for others, Elizabeth does whatever she pleases.

Physical Appearance: A large man who has a very prominent barrel-chest and broad shoulders. His brown eyes and dark, curly hair are often hidden behind his headgear which he wears while hosting his radio show and when he engages in various flight related activities. He usually wears a black jacket with a plain red shirt underneath, pressure-resistant brown tights, and a white towel around his neck.

Personality
: Bismarck is an absolute showman. He isn’t afraid to display different mannerisms to invoke the right reaction he wants from someone. Generally, he is an easy-going fellow who likes to bring the optimistic side of things. However, he isn’t a push-over when it comes to rough times.

Biography: As a child, Bismarck had the pleasure to watch the local airshows from the park across the street where his home was located. These spectacles would often include air gliders and air balloons, along with the occasional antique jet harrier. Along with his childhood friends, Bismarck dreamed of flying across the unending sky one day. During his 15th birthday, he would join his first amateur air surfing contest. He came in 3rd and had fallen in love with the sport. Motivated to spread the interest to other people, he had begun organizing clinics that deal with the hobby along with his peers. His initiative was soon noticed by a local radio station owner. This businessman was impressed with Bismarck and offered him a spot on his transmission. That was well over four years ago and Bismarck is still as passionate with both his hobby and his job as ever.
