Dude that's really scary. Good luck with everything going forward; I really feel bad that you got hit with this. I personally think you made the right call in taking the fall for all that and, well, I'm literally out of words to say. And that's not normal for me.

Just... I hope everything works out the best for you. Sometimes the worst things have to happen for the best things to come around, so here's hoping this turns out to have a silver lining that fixes things up for you. I'm rooting for you in this - Good luck.

Man, this really is big. You did a pretty good thing owning up to stuff and taking the consequences. Hope things go well for you later on and, as iggy said, this whole rotten deals gives you something good in the future. I'll be cheering for you from here.

I still think you should counter-sue on the grounds that their evidence was received through means equating to industrial espionage, if you're going to have to file bankruptcy if you settle anyways, I don't see the big difference. This at least has a chance to not only get you off of that, but discredit them in future cases.

What the hell!? That is NOT cool. ;w; I'm sorry to hear that, Dionsaur. I'd do what Ralor suggested. Or at least bring it up to your attorney and see what he/she thinks. Keep us updated if you can, okay? I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope for the best.

"There are many types of monsters in this world, monsters who will not show themselves and who cause trouble. Monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood, and, monsters who always tell lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance, they are much more cunning than other monsters. They pose as humans, even though they have no understanding of the human heart. They eat, even though they've never experienced hunger. They study even though the have no interest in academics. They seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such a monster, I would likely be eaten by it, because in truth, I am that monster."

Well, shit. Still not sure how exactly they got away with monitoring you for a year and a half, but I know so very little of law.

Just like Iggy, I'm speechless, really. It's equal parts depressing and infuriating.

A year and a half of monitoring is a massive breach of your right to privacy. Jesus.

Best of luck dude.

Uh. Yea... that'd probably do no good at all. NSA has probably done way more spying on Dion and his family then this company. They won't get shit for it, nor would this company. Why? Theres a pretty nice law out there now that people didn't really fucking pay attention to. Patriot Act ring a bell? That law can, essentially, allow the Government to listen in on ANYONES calls, e-mails, texts, track their IP, and so forth and label it under "Terrorism tracking" when in  actuality, they can just be tracking you just to do it. There's  practically  no privacy in a majority of this world And the ones that are doing it, can get away with it, easily. If you think your phone company, your internet provider, even the e-mail company you use, isn't spying or looking at your shit, then you are sadly delusional.

Well, shit. Still not sure how exactly they got away with monitoring you for a year and a half, but I know so very little of law.

See above basically. Companies have been doing this for many years. We're really only just hearing more about it as of late because more people are coming forward with it in light of recent events, to probably make it much more well known as to what is really going on.

A year and a half of monitoring is a massive breach of your right to privacy. Jesus.

Best of luck dude.

Sadly, the right to privacy really means nothing now. I don't know just how it is in Canada for cities and such. But I know that a lot of America for certain is  littered  with cameras on every corner of every street. Sure, people can say it's for safety. Which I'm sure it has been used for and done good for. But you  literally  have no say in them filming you. You go to the mall? On tape. Grocery store? Same thing. Walk by a school? Got you there too. Highway? Yep same thing. Theres very little places left where you aren't being monitored in what you do. Thinking that your safe in your own house and no one will know things about what you do in it, be it on the phone, on the computer, whatever, is just naive now.

Anyway, you ask for us to not be ashamed cause of you watching porn? Yea, no. I don't think anyway would do that. What I will say though is this, who, in the fuck, downloads porn anymore? That's where I am ashamed of you. There are massive amounts of sites that STREAM THE BLOODY SHIT. I do not understand the point in doing such. If you didn't want to be ashamed of it, you wouldn't want anyone to know of it either right? So set computer to a private tab, use a proxy filter, go find a stream of it. Close out of it when you're done and bam. No shame of anyone finding it on your computer or even through browsing history or IP search really.

Okay, now that being an ass it done. I really hope you get through this. It's not the end of the world of course but still. It's pretty damned terrible. I slight warning however. I know of a few cases in where someone had downloaded songs, and while THEY were the ones that did the act and got caught. THEY were not punished or suffered from it at all. It was the person who had made the contract with the ISP. Even though they person with the contract took no part in it, nor were they even FAMILY of the downloader, they had the  repercussions  of it on themselves when they did no wrong simply because it was on their Network that the songs were gotten on.

I know you want to take the blame and all, but you know how corporate shit can be. They'll go after someone else, especially if you try and do it yourself and they literally won't get a penny out of you. They could easily just try and go after your father instead claiming what I mentioned above. Since he's the one making the money and has a job and such compared to a student like yourself. Just a bit of forewarning.

I'm sad to add on that Kai actually does bring up a good point. It's not like it's all that hard* to just bookmark the page or something...

This.

Site doesn't matter. These companies track your IP via swarm bots in torrents. They check to see if your IP is uploading or downloading any portion of data (doesnt matter if you completed the download or not your IP just has to register) and they list your IP. They then register your IP and monitor all your other bittorrent activity to see if you download or at least try to download any other files.

It's a really elaborate process that isn't legal in the US. The reason they get away with it because courts are not tech literate to the point where they know what's going on.

fuck that sucks, I'm so sorry to hear that. Try settling to to the point where you can make monthly payments to them, no point in filing for bankruptcy just yet, I'm sure they will work with you especially since its your first time. At least I hope for your sake bro, jesus this sucks so bad.
